Got this in an email and thought I would share...

Subject: a billion is......

This is too true to be very funny

The next time you hear a politician use the

word "billion" in a casual manner, think about

whether you want the "politicians" spending

YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising agency did

a good job of putting that figure into some perspective in one of its

releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our

government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New

Orleans It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division . .

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for

$250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans .&nbs p; Interesting number, what

does it mean?

A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man,

woman, child), you each get $516,528.

B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home

gets $1,329,787.

C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D.C .. HELLO!!! ... Are all your calculators broken??

Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers,
Tax him more,
Tax hi m until he's good and sore.

Tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.
Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"

And when he's gone,
We won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance TAX!!

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the
world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians!'

And I still have to "press

1" for English.

I hope this goes around THE
USA at least 100 times

What the heck happened?

Chain E-mails are stupid.

That's the cliff notes.

At the same time, why don't we all boycott every gas station in America forcing them to lower gas prices and, lest we not forget, stop flashing your lights ar cars without headlights on in order to prevent someone from joining a gang. Later, QD.

I think that was actually one of the few worth reading. I don't get chain letters usually. When I do I make sure I take time out of my day to write a hate letter, and block that person from ever sending me mail again. Same goes with texts, people usually get angry calls from me when they do that sh*t.

Actually taxes were originally created to tax the wealthy.. this country was founded on the notion that the common man should not be taxed, the problem is the wealthy are also well informed and find consistent loopholes in tax code to push the burden down to the lower class.

This is true to a point but taxes were never intended to be what they are now. Hell the original income tax was 1% and it was optional! That was put in place by FDR so in 60 years it went from that to 40% for some and thats just income tax! If you include other taxes on property, sales taxes, and such some people are paying over 60% of what they make every year in taxes!

The main point of me posting this was how ridiculous it was for the representative from Louisiana to ask for $250 billion for New Orleans not to start a debate...

lol Sorry I just like to debate.. so he asked for $250 Billion? Probably with the plans to line his consituents pockets.

i calculated the billion seconds thing, turns out that a billion seconds ago is only 1976..... NOT 1957

1000000000 seconds
31556926 seconds in 1 year

1 billion divided by 31556926 is 31.7 years.

And 1 billion minutes is 1901 years so....
2008 - 1901 = year 107 AD, Jesus supposidly DIED in 36 AD.

'Advertising agencies' should not be doing math. Its easy to prove most of those wrong.

In 2006: the USA netted 13.13 trillion dollars in GDP, spent 410.8 billion on the Department of Defense, 56.5 billion in education, 21.1 billion in agriculture, and 34.1 billion in housing and urban development. The growth in discretionary budget quoted 843.0 billion is spending alone, and this is just a small fraction of what our government spent in 2006.

The point I'm trying to make is yes, a billion dollars is an unfathomable amount of money for an individual to spend. But to a government in a nation the size of ours, a billion is pocket change.

Yeah, but without taxes, our government wouldn't be able to use fiscal policies like capital deepening to keep our country from turning into more of a **** hole than it is already. Taxes suck, but they are a necessary evil... like David Hasselhoff.
