2jz=rb26. There is no big theory behind, it is because they want to.
Smoky from top secret did a supra with rb26, so does it mean rb26 is better, answer is no. He also did a r34 with 2jz, but it doesn't mean 2jz is better either.
In the US, the reason that more people put 2jz in their car because there are more parts support the 2jz platform.

2jz has proven itself wayy more than a rb26 as far as reliabilty goes, the vast aftermarket parts, easier to tune, availbilty of the engine, research and development, and not to mention the price comparison between these 2 motors, For the price of an rb26 i can probably find 2 2jzgte's

rb > 2j
mckinney motorsports does enough "supplying" to the public to keep peoples stock needs for parts in line... so i can understand having had a RB in my 240. and it is a pain in the arse... but i'd still rather have a single Rb over a single 2j ALL DAY its just a preference

Prices are probably similar there as well.

Probably has something to do with the fact that toyota > nissan. :goodjob:

I think the "Why?" question is less of a Toyota VS Nissan issue (but for the record, Nissan > Toyota) and more of a "why swap one ridiculously over-engineered straight-6 capable of 4-digit HP numbers for another?" issue. Both engines are twin turbo, straight 6ixes from the factory and both can make insane amounts of power on the stock bottom end, so the question is why go to all the trouble of doing an engine swap just to end up back where you started?

Exactly my question! Supra isn't bad looking either. What's the point? If you prefer a Toyota go play with a Supra.

There are people does things so they can said they can and they did it.
As far as which motor is better, the RB would win over all. If the 2J is that good, all the Supra in JGTC would used them (I know a lot of them use 3SGTE) where GTR never gave up on the RB26. And if you say things like 2J makes more HP than RB26, of course it does. If it does not, it would be a crappy motor that has bigger displacement than the RB26 but makes less power.

Thank you. The RB26 has been used in N1, JGTC, Time Attack, Drag Racing, 24h Lemans, hell even Rally. How many types of racing has the 2J been in besides drag??????? Its still a bad ass motor and now that I think about it I have seen one rally Supra.

Its the big bang theory... since they couldn't blow the Rb they stuck the 2J in there = boom..... J/K both motors are amazing
