Where can I get a permit to where I can carry my gun around legally in my car?

A. How old are you?

B. Do you have any felonies? Any domestic violence convictions? Ever been put in a mental institution? Ever taken up actions against our government? Any other convictions?

C. You go to the probate court/judge of the county that you call a residence and apply for the permit. It is ~$45 and last for 5 years. They will fingerprint you , do a background check, and send you a permit in 1-3 months provided that you pass the checks.

You can carry your gun in your car legally without a permit... just gotta be careful as to where you have it. And seeing as how your 18, I'm assuming your talking about a rifle and not a pistol... since you legally can't own one until 21. But from what I've heard, it's legal to drive with a firearm as long as it isn't "hidden"... like laying on the passanger seat is legal... but I could definatly be wrong, just what I've heard.

Alright. I just wanted to make sure cause I didn't want to get pulled over and have it in there and get it taken away from me. I love my guns to much.

3 places w/o a permit:

1. Center console
2. Glove box
3. "plain view"

You can store it in the trunk as well.

You have 3 years left. The "carry" permit only applies to handguns.

No, you don't (for the places that I listed). However, if you want to carry it under the seat or on you in your vehicle, you do.

Now, if you are under 21 and carrying it, good luck with jailtime. Under 21 with a gun in your car, no matter where it is = you will spend some time behind bars and/or get shot by the police. I wouldn't fuck around like that if I were you.

so are you sayin I shouldn't carry my rifle around in my car?

A rifle you can get away with. A pistol, no. What confused me was the permit question. That really only applies to handguns. I know that there are other rules about carrying rifles, though.

Step out of your car with a rifle with the intent of using it or threatening someone with it and I will probably shoot you in order to save my or someone else's life.

Ask yourself this: Is it worth the risk?

If I got pulled over for somethin and the cop asked if he could search the car I would tell him I had a rifle in the trunk or back seat.

You can have a gun in your car without a permit. The gun just have to be unloaded, bullets out of the gun, and clip also I believe. Unless it has changed. And you just let them know when you get pulled over, that you have a hand gun.

You need to re-read the law. "Thinking" that you know the law will get you in trouble. You have to KNOW the law, not believe that you do.

Georgia Code 16-11-126
(d) This Code section shall not forbid any person who is not among those enumerated as ineligible for a license under Code Section 16-11-129 from transporting a loaded firearm in any private passenger motor vehicle in an open manner and fully exposed to view or in the glove compartment, console, or similar compartment of the vehicle; provided, however, that any person in possession of a valid permit issued pursuant to Code Section 16-11-129 may carry a handgun in any location in a motor vehicle.

Basically, if you are not deemed as "ineligible" to get a license (felony, domestic violence, etc), even though you don't have one, you can still carry a loaded firearm in one of four places. If you are 21 or older and don't fit into the category of the 7 restrictions below, you can carry in your car, loaded, in one of four places, without a permit. However, if you do fit into the category of 7 restrictions that are listed below...

If you are not eligible to obtain a Georgia Firearms License (7 restrictions listed below):
You must carry the firearm enclosed in a case, unloaded, and separated from its ammunition.

Here are the restrictions that mark you as ineligible to get a permit:
No License shall be granted to:
1. Any person under 21 years of age;
2. Any person who is a fugitive from justice or against whom proceedings are pending for any felony, forcible misdemeanor, or violation of Code Section 16-11-126, 16-11-127, or 16-11-128 until such time as the proceedings are adjudicated;
3. Any person who has committed a felony;
4. Any person who has committed a forcible misdemeanor and has not been free of all restraints and supervision for 5 years from the date of application;
5. Any person who was convicted in violation of Code Section 16-11-126, 16-11-127, or 16-11-128 and has not been free of all restraints and supervision for 3 years from the date of application;
6. Any individual who has been hospitalized as an inpatient in any mental hospital or alcohol or drug treatment center within five years of the date of his or her application. The Probate Judge may consider the reason for the hospitalization and decide whether to issue a permit or not;
7. Any person who has been convicted* of an offense arising out of the unlawful manufacture, distribution, possession, or use of a controlled substance or other dangerous drug.
* 'Convicted' means a plea of guilty, a finding of guilt by a court of competent jurisdiction, the acceptance of a plea of nolo contendere, or the affording of first offender treatment by a court of competent jurisdiction irrespective of the pendency or availability of an appeal or an application for collateral relief.

Well im not the one asking about this. I was just stating what I heard. But I guess thanks for posting the law.

Stating what you "heard" can get you or someone else that follows your advice hurt when it comes to something like this. Make sure that you when speak of the law, you actually KNOW that law. "Thinking" that you know the law will get you in trouble. You have to KNOW the law, not believe that you do.

And of course you would have to be 21 or older. I just didnt clarify it.

To clarify. It is a magazine, not a clip.

Now thats weird, you can be 18 and own a rifle which is potentially way more dangerous, but you cant own a handgun? Whats the reasoning behind that?

its way more noticable to walk into a bank/ anywhere with a rifle
sidearms can be concealed.easily. i have one that if you didnt know i was carrying it, youd think i was carrying 2 wallets.

What JoeCool said.. lol. Alot easier to conceal a pistol than it is a rifle/shotgun.

Where can I get a permit to where I can carry my gun around legally in my car?

If you are a GA resident, are over 21, and can legally own a gun (no felony convictions, no restraining orders, not mentally ill, etc) then you can carry in your car without a concealed permit. In GA your car is considered to be an extension of your home. You only need a permit if you want to carry on your person in public places. If you have a valid carry permit then a background check isn't required.

www.packing.org has the details on the law in GA and how to get a permit, etc.

Gallyans got bought up by Dick's, and they don't sell handguns.. which makes them a bunch of dicks. So don't waste your time going there. Anyway, to buy a handgun in GA you need to fill out a background check form and have a valid ID. The background check can take up to a few hours depending on what state you were born in. Again, you have to not have any felonies on your record, not have any TROs, be mentally competent, etc.

If you want to buy a gun from another GA resident you can do a face to face sale without any kind of background check. Perfectly legal.

I already posted the law for carrying inside the car on page #1. Let me tell you this, if you do not have a permit and you carry it in your car, you had better have it in the one of four places that are allowed (center console, glove box, plain view, or another similar storage place). If you do not have a permit and you put it under your seat...you will get arrested. Your car is an extension of your home...but it has rules and limitations that your home does not have.
