-How about you go stealth mode and when you know your're about to go thru a red hit a button and hide your plates?
-Get that spray can that makes your plates invisible to the camera.
-Take your plates off.
-Or, the smartest idea ever, don't run them if you can't beat them.

The spray stuff doesn't work, has been proven time and time again, including by mythbusters. The other three ideas are golden, including the flipping liscense plate trick. Just watch out, it'll land you in a steaming heaping pile of crap if you DO get caught with it. Just taking your tag off when you decide to drive like a moron is the best idea. Most cops won't stop you just for having your tag off.

Enforcing the law is one thing, but i still hate those cameras. I mean, there are times when you need to run a red light - when it sticks, when it's an emergency, when it's 2am and you're driving to the hospital? But there's no way to fight a ticket with the things. If the cops want to enforce the law and stop people running red lights, then their butts need to be out there actually doing their job, not hiding in neighborhood entrances giving people speeding tickets for 10 over.

There are cases that the lights can't account for because they aren't subjective. But I think the benefits outweigh the costs. Think about it.

I'm not sure that i agree with you that the benefits really outweigh anything. The cameras don't stop people from running a redlight nearly as effectively as seeing a cop parked ahead of you would.
In october, i had a firsthand experience with this, as my boyfriend and I were t-boned by a drunk driver. We had a protected left turn arrow and he blew a redlight and slammed us (minor injuries only, thank god, but the poor car was very, very dead.) Anyway, having a redlight camera there wouldn't have stopped him. Not only was that driver unaware he was about to plow into someone, he didn't even see the light was red. Cameras wouldn't have stopped him. But had there been a cop car sitting at that intersection, lights on, the sight of blueberries up ahead might have.

Is it me or is there a lot of misinformation on IA lately?
Red light cameras do indeed keep people from running red lights. I see it every single day of my life. Why? Because I drive by several intersections, one which used to be one of the worst ever for people running red lights, and people do indeed have their guard up and tend NOT to run the light since they know it's there. Matter of fact, often times people slam on their brakes at the mere sight of yellow now when they used to just plow right thru before. This is my only complaint about them. They cause accidents from people that freak out about them.
My wife got one, in the exact same intersection mentioned above, and she totally deserved it. It was not even close. The ticket came in the mail and had a pic of her car, tag, the amt of time the light was red BEFORE she entered the intersection, her speed, etc. There was no debating it, and since I was literally right behind her and STOPPED....I knew she blew the light. Called her on the cell and told her so.
My point for that little story is that to my knowledge the cameras don't give every single person that comes close a ticket. I think it has to be pretty obvious and blatant. If you've already entered the intersection, it will not give you one. It's happened to me at that same intersection, like I said I drive thru it everyday, several times before where I went thru the intersection just as it turned yellow or was flaming yellow and have so far never gotten a ticket.
Bottomline? Don't run red lights and you won't have anything to worry about. :goodjob:

the biggest thing is they dont give a **** about preventing people from running red lights. Its just another income source. They realize people are going to do it so this way they can catch more people doing it and get more money. Just like speeding. When I went to court last week in douglasville they told people if they werent a defendant they had to leave because they couldnt fit all the people with tickets into the courtroom. Haha, I just attribute to lot's of dumbasses with cars in the city of Atlanta. Granted, speed limits piss me off sometimes, but for the US, they are a necessary evil. And this whole red light camera thing, you simply shouldn't be running red lights. Nothing pisses me off more then when I have to wait to cross an intersection because some jackass decides he's going to floor it instead of slow down, thus completely running the light.

wow thank you for your infinite knowledge. I have 0 points on my license. I do not speed nor do I run red lights. But that is besides the point I was making. To believe that the reasoning behind traffic enforcement is for our better good or "to save a life or two" is moronic. Stupid people are going to kill themselves and others regardless of whether it is behind the wheel of a 3000lb piece of metal or shooting up some place. Local governments realize that. But by enforcing traffic laws vehemently they can bring in alot of income without public outcry that arises from taxation. Maybe I shouldve used large font and caps so you'd understand

I'm going to have to continue to disagree on this. Yes, income is one reason, but if you don't think it's also for safety, then you sir are moronic. Sure, people still break the law, but you better believe that there would be a lot more people speeding and running red lights if it wasn't so strictly enforced, hence resulting in many more accidents and deaths. I'm glad that these laws are in place so driving in Atlanta wouldn't require an armored vehicle with a snow plow.

Wow, you have got you some logic there my friend. So in your little world, if something doesn't work right away you throw it away? Why'd you keep your brain then?
Obviously it can't be working if courtrooms are filling to the brink every month with violators.
There's that magical logic again. You cup is always half-empty, isn't it?
Why don't you look at the court rooms filling up as a sign that POLICE ARE doing their job correctly? Ever thought of that possibility? Funny how Police get stereotyped as lazy donut eating good for nothings, yet when they DO their job......people like YOU don't like it. Isn't America great?
And generally if something isnt working you change it.
It's funny how the naysayers have selective reasoning powers.
What part of, "I see it EVERY DAY and it WORKS..." didn't you understand. I've been driving by the same exact intersection(s) for almost 7 yrs now. I drove thru there when there were NO cameras and drove thru there just this morning when there ARE cameras. I see, with my own two eyes, that there is a HUGE difference in how drivers approach that SAME EXACT intersection that BEFORE the cameras were installed people used to run at will. Many, many people have been seriously injured and killed AT THAT INTERSECTION before. Matter of fact, I've personally gotten out to aid on 2 different occassions after nasty wrecks RIGHT THERE. So for someone with your logic skills to ASSume things aren't "working" is laughable at best. They work. Problem is that whiners don't like it when you hold their feet to the fire for THEIR mistakes. It's not rocket science. Don't run the light, don't get a ticket. It's not any more difficult than that.
When I lived in Pa it was rare to see a speed trap or someone pulled over, and certainly not a camera, yet somehow they managed to not have completely vehicular anarchy. It may have changed but last i knew only state cops were even allowed to use radar/laser up there.
Oh yeah, because PA or any part of the Northeast for that matter is the mecca for courteous and proper driving techniques. Whatever.
My uncle has lived in PA for the last 30+ yrs. He drives down to visit us atleast twice a year. Almost 20 hours in his car to get here. Ask HIM what he thinks about GA drivers vs PA drivers. Whatever. Your logic failed miserably my friend. Miserably.

Here is the problem with red light cameras - they do not ticket the person driving the car - they ticket the registered owner. Basically, here in GA, the camera takes a picture of the tag, and they send the ticket to the person who owns the car - not who was actually driving. The problem with this approach is that the enforcement is not being made upon the person who broke the law.
Of course, with any law there are provisions of exclusivity. Since there is no officer to verify that you were the driver, you only have to claim that you lent the car out, and you were not the driver. The judge of course will ask who the driver was, and of course you would state that you lend your car out a lot and it could have been any of several people. Because the vehicle is not a commercial vehicle, you do not have to legally keep a log book, and would not know. Based upon the current law, the charges should be thrown out.
Here's the catch though: The ticket is a non-moving violation, and in most municipalities, it is only around $70. It will cost you more to take off from work to fight it, than to just pay it. I could have beat it when my wife got one in Lilburn (it got sent to me), but I would have lost money that day.

That's all fine and good, except for one thing: You either did run the light or you didn't. If you did and just use a loop hole to get out of it, it doesn't say anything about the law being faulty....only you being at fault and getting away with it. If you really didn't do it, then just name who did and let them get the ticket. After all, like you said, it's not even a point deducting violation and relatively inexpensive.

If you'd tell your ****ing "fleet" to learn how to ****ing drive, you wouldn't have any problems with this. Would you? How come common sense isn't so common in some people? Later, QD.
