piston pin removal

does anyone know how to remove a piston pin out of a ls piston so that i can put new pistons on the rods?

You either need a piston pin press, and a shop press, or you're gonna have to take it to a machine shop and have it done.

You don't wanna buy one. It's money money. Go to a shop...they're not gonna charge but what...like 10$ a piston? It's easy and quick as hell. I've done two motors worth.

hahah i hope that was a joke... yeah bro you're gunna need to take them to a machine shop and have them pressed off... the pins should slide right into the new pistons, then you just install the lock rings and you are all set...

1st you cut the piston in half and pry it out with a pitch fork.



or take it to a shop or machine shop and they will press it out for you. :)

every shop is different. i just got my pistons and will be heading to scotts machine shop for balance. I dont think it is very expensive.

yeah scott's machine shop charged me $210.00 for a 4 cylinder and that included pressing the wrist pins out... i believe it was $150 or $160 for just the balancing....

i dunno when u are going. but they have my block and are boring it over 60 thousandths, balancing the crank w/ the pistons. we have taken other motors to them and no problems. They are VERY VERY nice guys there.

With the B18, it's got (said) 110K miles on it. To me...with it's condition (granted, it runs fine, I've just been around motors too long to be fooled) I'd say we're around about 180-200K. Everything's still strong. Just some leaks. Well, when moving it to the new chassis, I think I may do a bottom-end rebuild (no performance added) and MIGHT have the head done to flow a little better...

Thought about boring...but I leave Feb for the marines. The car's basically getting dressed up and pretty to sit under a cover in the garage...

stock block? no work what so ever? if u ever build the bottom end, find a nice forged piston that is slightly larger than stock. get the machine shop to bore it out and install the new pistons. it wont cost that much more and you will have more options down the road (boost, juice, etc...) knowing you have a nice almost new engine under the hood is a good feeling.

She's a virgin...

I THOUGHT hardcore about building her, but I work at a paintshop, and currently the shell it's going into is getting decked out with a Marine Corps theme (seeing as I'm going, soon) and (as stated) will be covered and garage kept and mostly just come out to show and let the recruiter's use...stuff like that. The b18 has MORE than enough power for that...as I can vouch. She runs high 14's in the quarter (I never said she was fast) at about 92-95mph, and I've taken her to 120mph on the interstate with plenty more to go...and it gets up to 120 ALL too easily to have a "USMC" down the side of it...

As this was GOING to be my only/daily...I would have built it. But...seeing as I'll probably want something a little more...comfortable when I return home (such as I'm looking at 350z :D ) this car will be more of a garage queen than a daily/racer.

So...I mean, I dont' know. Granted, I've always got the option of building the bottom and then putting the motor in another car to finish off when I return home... But again, I see myself wanting a more "adult" car than a Honda (sorry, honda tuners...) when I return home...

dont worry. I told myself that a long time too. I had a '98 Ex and i was approaching 20 years old. I had to get rid of it. I needed something that had some class and I could take the ladies out...but then i bought a mustang. :no: lol. Now granted, there are some SEXY ass hondas out there but, for a nice evening in buckhead or somewhere fancy, those cars dont fit in. I drove my Civic to Brios and somewhere else...it went in the back. My mustang, it gets parked right up front with the benz's, bimmers, and ferraris. kinda kool.

Yeah, I mean, I love my civic, and it's become known up in the mountains, even. But it's hard to convince a chick's dad...or even a chick, for that matter...to get in a car that has no carpet, back seat, insulation, sound deadening material, headliner, windhsield wipers, heat, AC, defrost...and has 4-5 different color of primer on the outside.

...when we go out for the ladies we take my buddy's ford F150. All black on 20's, blacked windows, blacked head and tail lamps, center console removed for custom sub box that lights up plexi, two amps mounted to the ceiling, which is suede, and 3 tv screens.

I always find myself getting in my car rather depressed at the end of the night, LoL.

I wouldn't take **** to Scotts. Anyone that has a clue as to what they are doing would take their stuff somewhere that knows how to operate machinery. Those people have ****ed up more things than I care to remember. They have cost me $$$$$ in the past. But I guess if you don't know any better, or if you're easily impressed, you'll be happy with their work. There are much better machine shops around. If you're looking for a bargain deal, then you'll get bargan work. You get what you pay for.
