Seems that heat soak in the GT500 was really killing it, however in a lot of the runs where Lank pulls ahead, he got a much better start without as much spinning.

good video, but my ? is if someone was gonna spend the money for the 2.8kb on top of the gt500 motor, y the hell would they only run 12 psi, they could run 18-20 reliably and make 750rwhp
o n by the way congrats lankhoss that car has pulled out some insane wins

Congrats, and nice vid. Looked like a decent spot too. Maybe need to get some people up to go down there sometime soon. Apparently there are quite a few c5's on here that could get a piece too.

I am not quite sure what the stock fuel system can handle, but I'd imagine it's "only" at 12 psi for it to run safely without straining any part of the stock setup.

He talked about getting new headers and turning it up to 14 or so psi. I'd imagine that could easily make 700rwhp+

The funny thing is you will still outrun him. I think his dyno #'s are not correct! It's like you had the 640rwhp and he had the 500rwhp!! Good job,and keep it up. Your car is awesome!

there was one tuned not long ago with only a kb2.8 @20psi, jlt intake, longtubes, dual stock gt500 pumps and he made 850rwhp, i would guess his limitations are because of the stock fuel pump. good kill either way though:goodjob:

Is that on pump, pump + meth or race fuel? A lot of people dont want to deal with race gas or meth injection. I dont know of any smallblock cars making 850 on pure pump and no nitrous.
It does seem that most vid's Ive seen of those cars on the street are a bit disappointing. Ive seen some fast ones at the track on slicks, but on the street I just dont see them running that impressively for the power and cost (and hype.)

Last I thought that GT500 made more than that.. . On a side note you guys have to understand how TIM tunes those Blower cars.. The inlet temps start going up and it will pull timing.. Lets not forget that those blowers get hot quick..lol.. If I was to guess that car in the race was in the 500 to 550 range, with that GT500 being a tank that might explain getting drug down the road...lol..

that was on pure pump, the car ran 9.70s at low 140s if i remember right, ill try to find the article on it.

I'm almost sure Kenny Bell made 800whp on 93... It was in a Mag not to long ago...

Glad I'll never have to worry about that again.:nx:

Why dont the SC stangs put a small shot on there to compensate for this heatsoaking issue?

The funny thing is that the efficiency of the GT500 set-up.... There is one thing to do X horsepower at the dyno and then see the GT500 in a real life senario. ;)

Also I will bet anything that Lankhoss car will come 150lbs short if we put the 2 cars in a scale...:goodjob:

Tuners.... I said something when I worked at Modular about running NOS or Meth to cool the inlet temps, I only know of one car from Modular with Meth.. Its a Mach 1 and a 1.7 KB... Its a really good idea but Tim does not like the idea cause there is really no fail safe w/meth.. I'm sure if the idea keeps floating around the shop they will end up doing more to cool the blower down..

lightspeed, you were right about the race fuel being used to make those numbers on the GT500.. Here is the link... http://www.kennebell.net/media/articles/TooMuch.pd f

If that link^^ dont work then go here, just scroll down and you will see the gt500.. http://www.kennebell.net/media/media-home.htm

just because you spray the intercooler with nitrous doesn't mean it's not going to find it's way in the engine. Most of the cars are setup all out on the blowers... spraying nitrous is only adding fuel to the fire... BOOOOM snapp pop... cheapo Wal-mart fordged cobra piston!

I had to fix it for you. :D

Those runs looked very simular to the ones that Lank and I had awhile back. BTW From the looks of things that vid looked like it was shot in my neck of the woods? I would love to run that gt500.

Rafa.I am sure it will be more than 150lbs. Knowing that the GT500 weighs in at like 3825lbs. Lankhoss vette is nice though, when I get my new car maybe we can run.

Thanks guys,

That GT500 was probably closer to 4,000 lbs with those 20" wheels. They're 3850 or 3920 depending on the options (stereo setup, etc).

I think he was making ~640 on the street dyno that night - considering how Brad and Thrust seemed to be pretty even with Thrust's ~605 RWHP and the '03/'04 weighs 3665 lbs. That's a pretty significant difference in weight - takes a lot of HP to still hang with that ~335 lbs extra.

Tim does tune so the ECU starts pulling timing a bit sooner than a lot of other tuners, I believe it's 130* F for Tim and usually 150* for most others, including mine.

I think Brad weighed in at 3110 on the scale at Reynolds - the catted X-pipe and headers saved some weight - forget what fuel load that was with.

12-04-2007, 12:32 PM
Man, 3110 is LIGHT.

Lankhoss
12-04-2007, 12:58 PM
Yeah, I weighed 3110 with either half or 5/8 a tank of gas at the Silver Dollar scale.

There you have it.... the extra HP of the GT500 didn't help, but the efficiency of the raw N/A power over power the FI set-up.

501whp / 3110Lbs = 0.161 ratio

Vs.

640whp / 4000Lbs = 0.16 ratio

I think the GT500 had to be over 4000 or Lankhoss car is lighter.;)

Fock.... I was at 2740/398whp the night I ran Lankhoss and he still walked me by 3 or 4 cars...:( keep in mind I have 0.14hp per lb. :(

Like I said his car is the devil....

They have more tools to help with that now that can pull boost and or timing if they system doesn't activate.
