So the wife and I are having a baby. My mom really wants a camcorder, and my dad is going to get her one for Christmas. In the spirit of finding the best camera for my parents that will be the easiest to use, I'm considering (my dad wants me to buy it because he doesn't know much about electronics) one of those flip camcorders you can get. I noticed the most expensive one at the local Wal-Mart here was a sony, which was $199.00. I guess the question is, would you guys think this would be easy for my mom to put on her computer and email to family? is the quality of these decent?

I don't know about those. I'd spend a little more and get an actual camcorder, myself. Later, QD.

As would I, but my parents couldn't figure out how to sync a mini dv or similar camera with a computer. I have a Panasonic I believe, and it supposedly connects to my computer, but hardly ever does without giving me problems. I just need to find something my parents can easily upload to their computer to send family/friends video of the baby.

There's no syncing of a miniDV to a computer. As soon as you plug into the Firewire, the associated program automatically starts and you just download from there. Later, QD.

Well if they plan on transfering the video to the computer you should get a hdd camcorder. very very simple. Plug and play on most. Prices will range on them. I work at best buy and occasionally we have a bad ass package deal on mid level camcorders. Just keep and eye out on local sales. Also have them go into a place and play with some camcorders.

it's a christmas present for my mom...so she can't really play with one at the store, lol...plus price limit is 250, which is fine for a mini dv, or one of these...my minidv is a panasonic i believe and it doesn't sync to the computer right...not sure why, but it's very annoying!
