why take off the windscreen? i understand the mirrors not many people really use them but i think you should just get a low windscreen and if you like the yellow just get one yellow tinted...it looks odd without one

are you being serious or trying to be funny?

find a tinted windscreen and pop it on, they make yellow ones....check out memphis shades

and get rid of the D&D pipe.

btw.....when you lower a bike, you are suppose to etheir get a shortened kickstand or a relocation bracket.

topsecret2JZ
07-29-2005, 08:32 PM
i shortened the kickstand

the handling is kinda different, and it was actually pretty easy to lower, it only took my like an hour to lower it

that thing is mad ass ugly, put the windscreen back on wannabe stunta....i owned a kat for 3 weeks and sold it, worst bike ive ridden yet. do yourself a favor and get something else.....if you havent ridden anything else you might want to try. the katana is so slow and terrible in corners. i was riding with some friends and the ass end came out from under me in a turn. The tires are such a hard compound they wouldnt get any grip.

Cool bike I need to sell my old skool kaw kz. know anyone needing a starter bike?

topsecret2JZ
07-30-2005, 02:01 AM
maybe you just suck at riding, it was not the bike that sucked in corners it was you as a rider

AznTraitor
07-30-2005, 08:02 AM
well, I think the Katana is a little too top heavy for what it is.....

last year on my way home from work, a guy on a brand new Kat dumped it on a real easy 35 degree turn and when I pulled over to help him out, he simply said when he was going into the turn the bike just let out on him....

and when you lower a bike, you change the geometry of the bike itself, so I wouldnt be trying to do any high speed corners or taking that thing to the mtns.

TS2Jz man don't be too big to take advice...if these guys have ridden for a while listen to what they are saying...do not try and jump their nuts for giving advice and for the constructive criticizm....learn to take it with a grain a salt cause you posted the pictures up knowing full well you would get peoples opinions and some would go against how you felt...just sit back and listen

Couldn't you just buy new tires instead of a new bike?

1) The windscreen is nice to have when you get to high speeds, keeps the wind from pushing you around. That's its only real purpose. If you like the bike without the windscreen, that's cool. Personally, I like to have mine. A dark smoke one would look good on that bike - IMHO.

2) Lowering the bike does change the geometry. You are going to find that the bike is more stable at higher straight-line speeds, but the bike won't lean as far without scraping. You'll probably find that you need to go a little slower through corners. I say probably because I have no idea how fast you could corner before lowering the bike. If you don't ride in the mtns or on the track, it probably won't hurt you at all to have lowered it. Should help a little bit at the dragstrip.

3) I never liked the stock mirrors on the Katana. But I don't like to ride in Atlanta traffic without mirrors.

ewww... deathtrap.exactly, and that's coming from a well experienced rider ^^^^.

Katana's have always been heavy and top heavy, they are completely uncomfortable and unsafe...you obviously haven't ridden too many other bikes made in the last 5 years to not know why people are criticizing you. I hope it does well for you, if you're up in the mountains just remember it can't hang with most others...no matter who the rider is.

the katana in stock form isn't that bad, but the lowering job that was done will cause all kinds of ill handling on any curves at all. everything will bottom easier because you didn't raise the spring rate or change the stroke length of the fork/shock to match the new ride height. all i see is that the preload adjuster on the rear shock was loosened all the way almost and the forks are dropped in the trees. bad juju, but whatever floats your boat.

I sold the bike because overall it was a P.O.S. I could of bought new tires but why spend all that money on tires for a bike that still doesnt handle that great? Instead of riding a sport touring im going back to a full sport bike. Honestly I have NEVER seen one katana that i have liked.....i liked mine at first but the more i road it the more i realized it was more of a bike for someone who wants a sport bike look but not the power/handling ability of one. And you are so right, i am a TERRIBLE rider that is why the back end came loose on me, not because the tires are a hard compound and dont get nice n sticky like most of the new bikes tires which are nice and soft. After running the same corners/stretch of road my friends did i touched my tire and touched theirs, they were pickin up little pebbles and stuff from being so warm and sticky, mine was luke warm at best. Anyways, ride and have fun, just dont push it thinking you have some awesome sport bike and dump it in a turn
