Many years ago in England , pub frequenters had a whistle baked into the rim, or handle, of their ceramic cups. When they needed a refill, they used the whistle to get some service. "Wet your whistle" is the phrase inspired by this practice.

FACT:

These 'facts' have been sent around through E-mails for the last 50 years.

Considering there was no internet 50 years ago...I'd say that was an incredible feat!

I have difficulty believing any of those facts. Africa is only 28% wilderness, and North America is 38%? There is no way in the world that only 28% of Africa is wilderness.
