So I was replacing the starter on my friend Lindsay's car earlier... thought she had disconnected the battery...

Painful lesson of the day... never take a friend's word for disconnecting a battery. She had loosened the terminals, but the ***** was NOT disconnected...

So I go about my business removing the starter bolts, pop the little plastic cap off the + wiring, start to wrench one and BAM... it arcs a little. I'm thinking "**** **** **** ****". I yell for Lindsey and she comes out, and I'm like "Dude.. disconnect the battery all the way" and just as I said that, I dropped the starter.... Trying to grab it, I grabbed the back end, the end that goes into the transmission. I successfully grabbed it and pushed it right onto the frame. The ***** grounds against the chassis, and sent the full shock through my left ring finger.

HOLY...

****ING...

CHRIST...

It hurt... SO BAD. I can't stop shaking, and my entire upper body is sore. My finger is pretty gnarly and swollen. Just above my elbow's really sore, and according to webmd, if the jolt was powerful enough, an exit wound may form in the next few hours.... I hope not... if it does, I'm going to the er and getting bandaged up properly....

So... lesson of the day... double check your ****ing battery connections. :(

12 volts is not going to do any serious damage. Just some pain. Pop you a few advill and youll be fine. The biggest thing you should have is some swelling.

Yeah I'm ok this morning.. just got some gnarliness going on on my finger... definitely took off a couple layers of skin.. booo... and it's kinda oozing a little. :( Definitely scared the **** outta me though lol.

and by the way, the starter was for a 2001 mustang GT, and apparently they crank at about 15 volts.... Freakin A.... 15 volts sounds so inconsequential... till it's zapping through a finger. :(

Volts don't kill, amps do.

Never take a womans advice on something automotive... Maybe in some really rare cases but for you typical woman... don't trust em. They seldom know what they're talking about.
