so i got some unexpected car trouble when i was leaving for work tonight. i took tonight off. idk what kind of mechanic is open on a sunday, so i got a ride arranged for sunday night.

i need:
ride from MT zion blvd/I-75 QT, pick me up at 8am monday morning to mcginnis ferry/Peactree industrial QT. ride length is 45 miles, typically takes 45-50 minutes depending how you drive. ive done it in 40 minutes.:ninja:
ill give $40 for fuel and time.

then i can get my car to a mechanic hopefully monday morning, and a might need a ride monday night to work and from work to home tuesday morning.

if interested, PM or post here.

i live in suwanee, next to mcginnis ferry/pib, and i work overnight at mt zion. i went to the store near my house to get a drink on my way to work and decided to go back by the house to pick something up. i pulled in my neighborhood and the lights got dim, tach went dead, and the battery light came on, car died when i pulled into my parking space.
previous symptoms:
-night before, i heard very light belt squeakage(might be unrelated)
-previous commute, the battery light was on
-since ive owned the car, the battery light flickers at high rpms(5k+, rarely used), which over the past week, that threshold rpm has become lower until today, it comes on at idle.
-car is 2000 ford escort zx2:(

im assuming the alternator went bad at some point, and now the battery has run out of life. im hoping its only a loose connection. a friend is coming over tomorrow and were going to try and see if we can take the alternator to autozone for testing and/or replacement.

also, if anyone is has decent mechanical skills, i can buy you lunch or dinner or something for your time. im in a hard spot here. any help is appreciated.

i work 11pm-8am, and i allow 55 minutes commute time, fyi for anyone who may be interested. thanks for the feedback.
-kevin.

i'm the wheelman around here, i have a few successful heists on my record. i just need to know the weight of the package so i can calculate the exact amount of gas we need to make it where we are going as quickly as possible.

kthxbye,
the wheel man

Seeing as you have started the car with no trouble and then all of a sudden it dies, I pretty sure its your alternator. Plus your battery light came on.

I could be wrong, ya never know tho.

car is sitting at kauffman tire next to my house. a buddy and i jump started it and i rode it there before it died.

if i cant get a ride home tomorrow morning, ill guess ill have to take tonight off as well and walk to kauffman tire and let them deal with it when they open in the morning, and hope theyre done by the time i go to work monday night.

upping my offer to $40.

The squeaky belt prob broke, hence killing the alternator.

The alternator isnt charging the battery becaue the belt is missing

disregard, i decided to take tonight off. thanks for the offer LS2 kid.;)

althought mike could vouch for me not being a psycho when i had the red JRSC rex at msp a couple times.

and belt is present and in good condition. i attempted to take alternator off today and failed due to not having better tools. we jumped it to get it running, then counted how long it could run on its own before it shutoff lol. lasted about 2.5 minutes.

CHeck the voltage on the battery with the car RUNNING. if its not 12-13 volts the alternator isnt working.

with the car running, pull the POSITIVE terminal off the battery, if the car dies, then the alternator isnt working

its the alt belt man, either it lost tension or it ripped. just get a new one, at a ghetto area autozone and there are usually "day laborers" outside that'll do it for you if you cant do it yourself who have their own tools and will do it for pretty cheap.

im positive its the alternator, check your power wire from the alternator to the battery and check the plug that clips into the alternator ( runs gauges, lights, tach etc), if both are in good condition then it is your alternator, i can take a look at it tomorrow night if need be?if you want i will bring my multimeter by and i can give you a definant answer, if you give me the make and model i will bring the few tools i need and help you remove it even. let me know. free of charge of course.
