View Full Version : Why I "hate" the holidays...

Well...first and foremost, I ****ing HATE the traffic! Just because it's the holidays DOESN'T mean you have to forget how to drive! Everyone's stressed with money and traffic gets thicker. Leave a little earlier so you don't have to drive like an *******. Seriously.

Second...and more importantly...I don't hear from some of you pricks ALL ****ing year! Then SUDDENLY! OMG! It's Christmas! I need to tell EVERYONE I haven't talked to in forever "Happy Turkey Day" via text. Text. How impersonal is that? Now don't get me wrong. Some of you I enjoy hearing from. For example, let's just use Elise, or Hardman, or Kelly...I text them ALL the time. It's how we communicate. Rarely are we caught talking on the phone. We're always texting each other. So if I get a happy turkey day from them in text, cool! That's just how we do things! Or like Summey. It's rare we hear from each other, but we go WAY friggin' back to hanging out on an hourly basis. A text or call from him is fine. But those of you that I don't EVER hear from...when you suddenly text me...I'm liek "oh, they'd have just felt guilty if they didn't." Thanks for SUDDENLY remembering me on the holidays, ****wad...great to know you're such a good friend...

Third...money. That needs no description. Everyone's got that problem to deal with trying to make people happy.

Fourth...I don't do gift-giving. Well...I mean, I do, but it's rare. Why? It eases the third reason that I hate the holidays. Money makes everyone bitter. Just call me up, say happy christmas, merry thanksgiving, whatever the case may be.

Fifth...If I AM going to give you a holiday gift...I'm PROBABLY going to ask you. If I dont' ask you, don't think you have to be burdened to get me something. Alot of us are holiday students...we're all broke. Again...just call and say happy holidays. However, when I DO ask you...don't say "oh, I don't know" as you sit there trying to figure out my banking status. Name a couple things. It can be spending time together at a dinner, or it can be a pair of Nikes. I don't know...throw some ideas out there. 20$ is legit (unless you're a really close friend). And again...I'd rather spend time with you than buy you ****.

Sixth...I'd LOVE to hear from you (those of you described in category 2). But also...don't be alarmed if I'm somewhat quick to be on the phone. I've probably got some things to take care of. Holidays are when the family is in town. I'm likely with them (unless I'm taking a break from them). So don't get defensive. I want to hear from you no matter my reaction on the phone. Don't be shy, and don't be deferred. But I may be a little quick.

Seventh...yes, I know this is 2007, and I know there's more holidays than Christmas, but it's likely I'll offer you a "Merry Christmas" no matter what holiday you celebrate. It's TRADITIONAL in the U.S. to celebrate Christmas as this country was founded, yes, on the freedom to celebrate ANY religion, but primarily on christianity. I'm sorry...I slip. I usually try to say happy holidays to those I don't know too well, but I may slip up. I'm sorry if I do, but do NOT get an attitude. Be happy you have family and friends to offer you a "merry christmas". Be happy I'm shopping at your Qwik-e-mart to offer you business. Be happy I stopped in at your...no, **** it, be happy you have a ****ing job and home to go to. Be happy you have a car to drive home. And if you have family, be happy and thankful for THEM. Without them, you are NOTHING.

Eighth...yes...you're right. I'm not a noted "christian". I am, however, one who believes, but believes in nothing in particular. Nonetheless...no matter what my religious views, beliefs, and faith may be...call me. Wish me a happy holiday (again, those not in category 2). I just may do the same to you, and if I DON'T call you, I'm sorry...take it as a slip. Not a sign that I hate you. But don't shy away from calling me and wishing me a happy holiday. It's good to hear from you even if it's with the excuse of "just calling to say hey" instead of "just calling to wish you a happy holiday" if you're really that sketch about it. I WANT to hear from you. Don't be shunned by being uncertain if I celebrate christmas or not. And for your info...I DO celebrate christmas. I do NOT get offended when hearing "merry christmas". Even though I'm NOT a full blown christian...

On that note...no...I'm not a scroodge. I'm human. I love the holidays...I love seeing family...I love seeing and hearing from friends... Why don't you try being the same instead of trying to suddenly be someone you're not...whether for the better or worse. Wish people a happy holiday, but make note that while you're sitting there calling everyone on your phone list because you feel obligated to...you're not the only one doing it. Many others are, as well...they've gotta kill their guilt, too, remember? We're human. We have flaws.

In closing...I DO wish all of you a safe and happy holiday. No matter what you celebrate.

On final word...

Merry Thanksgiving, and Happy Christmas...

Then again...maybe I'm just bitter and ranting. I don't know...

But am I wrong in thinking this?

sheesh... what a long ass rant. it seems like you are pissed and just need something to b*tch about.
the holidays aren't so bad... I am the first in my family to be exposed to american culture my whole life so its kind of different fot me.... we dont really do christmas, they have know idea was thanksgiving is about (although no one really does, american or not)... the holidays do suck in their own way, but i just see them as an excuse to eat lots of good food with friends and family, get off work/school, and get drunk as ****. thats enough to make it worth it right there. gotta look for the good side of the holidays or u'll get caught up in the stress of it all. drink a beer and relax!
i see it this way... i'd rather be stuck in traffic on lenox rd. than be stuck in tsunami-ravaged india begging for food this time of year.

repped!

I hate how people come out the woodwork to say "Happy whatever". Frigin call me. You know that jackass of a friend just forwarded the same txt to 50 other people.

i will be spending it with my family also. Me and my g/f broke up...so now i got money to spend on me. :) yayyy and sorta boo...but o'well. I like my car better, she cant break up with me. lolz.

Im more into the spending time together, or just the invitation of going out is plenty for me.
