As for a short throw, just get an ebay one. It's not like a bar of metal made by Neuspeed in some Chinese sweatshop vs. a non labeled bar of metal made in a Chinese sweatshop is going to be any different. Just save your money on an Ebay one, I love mine.

Well a guy used to have a 850 tha brought it into where I used to work and it seemed reliable to me lol, I drove it it was fairly quick.

Yeah as long as you keep the atrial ventriculator tightened to spec the Bimmer V12 isn't all that bad. Gotta adjust it every 25k and replace it at 100k.

what about the S70 version?
I thought those were only put in the McLaren F1 cars? I know they were made originally for the M8, but then they decided to put it in the McLaren F1 cars instead. It deffinately was a kickass engine from what I have read about it.

The reason the 850 engine or the M70 was crap is because it was a huge
V12 SOHC 24V. 5.0L engine with only 300bhp. That's not a lot for such a big engine, especially when it ways a ton and takes up a ton of space.

Funny thing is the V12 is two M20B25's spliced together, yet it only makes about 300hp, whereas the M20 makes 170. Something's wonky there...

Ridiculously weak power output given it's physical and displacement size. Good luck getting your hands in the engine bay to work on one.

Not to mention they get...what, 13 or 14 mpg?

A friend of mine built it, brilliant machinist. Did the 4 bolt mains himself, but most of the internal machine work was done at another race engine shop. The 383 is just a 350 stroker. It's a 4.030 bore/3.75 stroke, 10:1 comp. I'm not sure who made the stroker kit and thus the crank, but it was all balanced when it was built.
