Even tho buddy is running a single cam, you gotta give him props for hiding his turbo setup like that. Also, you would never had known that EF is pushing over 200hp since it looks like a bone stock car. I didn't really go into the details of the ef, but looking at the mods it seems like it is setup for auto-x.

So who considers a sleeper a car that runs in the high 12's or one not able to hook? I would consider a sleeper something that will pull up to a red light and toast a new LS2 or maybe like a 03/04 Cobra. Not bashing at all JMO.

The first one definitely caught me off guard and if I ever (which may be very soon) own any type of import it will be a true sleeper and look a lot like these.

The Miata is freaking insane and I give props to who ever owns it. I would think that it is faster than high 12's with traction?

Its really not about the brakes. If you are a Honda person then you know that HX wheels are one of the lightest wheel Honda makes. So get some HX wheels and throw some RT615s on them and you got a nice light weight and grippy setup. Then no one would know your rims weighs only 12lbs because the factory hubcaps are covering them. :goodjob:

A fully built R in a gutted EF hatchback is a pretty quick car. Around 200whp in one of Honda's lightest bodies. Even if it's not gutted, it'll still be pretty quick. I'm not saying it's mega quick, but it'd surprise you if you saw it on the street and pulled up to a red light with it. That's the object of sleeper cars - surprise.

A sleeper has the appearance of a stock car and normally one that is not known to be quick. I'm not saying it can't have a stock exhaust and just before launch open up the servo controlled cutout but sitting there hanging out it's gotta sound relatively stock.

200hp and doing damage? :lmao:

The Nova is pretty cool for a sleeper. The older Nova's, Camaros, Etc. owners mostly ran huge tires in their days and that guy looks like he is from those days. I would definitely call his azz out anytime just to get my azz handed to me but by the looks of the car and driver a lot of people would be fooled. There are 100's maybe 1000's of 13-16 second cars with roll cages and huge tires. Now the sound of a 8 second car just may give t away for anyone that knows anything about performance/power.

I'll take into consideration your lack of knowlege about foreign cars, i'll explain it kindly. The Miata pictured weighs in at about 2500lb including a driver and full tank of gas. 2330 is the dry weight. Most Miatas have either a 4.10 or even a 4.30 rear.... which is way to short for one with that much power. Now getting the 3.90 LSD from a later model Miata effective makes 1st and 2nd gear longer, making launching easier and reducing wheel spin. The 3.90 is actaually a very tall gear on a 5-spd Miata..... kinda like putting a 3.6 in your mustang. Also, having a ligher weight car does not require having super large contact patch or super sticky tires. Why is it hard to get grip from a lightweight rear-wheel drive car?

BUGMAN

Did you say rwd and lightweight? :lmfao::lmfao::lmfao::lmfao::lmfao:

If your talking about getting traction with a good tire @ 200 hp from a 70 mph roll then you may be just fine going that slow. :) But pulling up and surprising a "real" car with that then you should become a comedian.

Okay since you have already gone astray and now changing things around let's make this simple as possible.

Where did I say 2,300-2,500 lb's was heavy? What are you smoking? I was agreeing with you and with it being light weight and rwd your gonna need something additional to get grip with no weight on the rear axle. Do you come on here and try to find something to argue about? It is common sense and simple physics.

The 200 hp is the one I was referring to as surprising someone at a red light.

The other one with the swapped axle is the one that I was referring to as having traction issues for the power range.

I do wish, however, that I had my camera with me when I got my ass handed to me by what appeared to be just another silly ricer. This guy probably dropped like $500 at Pep Boys.... park bench wing, bullet hole stickers, bad LED's, APC stickers everywhere, carbon fiber stickers.... it was BAD... all on a 4 door 92 accord. At a light outside of Jefferson, he's all giving me looks in my old del Sol... Light turned and I took off. He's nowhere to be seen, so I just kinda keep going. Next thing I know, dude FLIES by, and all I hear is the all-too familiar turbo whine and BOV... turned out under that riced out POS looking hood was a nicely built H22 turbo. Intercooler painted black, I got pwned. :( Now THAT'S a sleeper lol.

the green civics game would be up real fast.

a) the gigantic FMIC gives the game away.
b) those rinky dink ass front tires would rather spin their silly asses into oblivion, than actually put that power to the ground and move the car.

Everyone keep saying that the intercooler gives away the sleeper status on the green eg BS.Why? Because if you was in a parking lot with that car you would overlook it because it looks trashy. And if he pulled up to you on the highway, you wouldn't be able to see the intercooler anyways.

Also, you dont need 100000038354u93248054909f0Hp to be a sleeper. A sleeper is a car that would catch you off guard. That EF is a sleeper, because you would never expect a high 12's (low 13's) 1/4mile out of a car that looks bone stock, with factory hubcaps, that run 17's stock.

If it runs those times then it would definitely catch a good bit of people off guard including me. Not sure how many it would smoke from a red light but impressive none the less.

Not sure how many it would smoke from a red light but impressive none the less.An '89-91 CRX with a completely stock Integra Type-R engine and LSD transmission will run 13.0-13.1 w/ slicks at Commerce all night long and you know how slow that track can be compared to most others.

I've seen a Civic EF Wagon run 13.0 there on slicks with a completely stock H22a (from the Prelude). Then i know someone that's run 12's in a stripped and caged 1st gen CRX run with a built SOHC engine.

The main thing with these little monsters is the lack of torque so how it runs depends on the gearing, without the correct setup it simply will not be quick. :2cents:

Regulated by what?

No weight = no traction.

No regulating that.

"His everyday car is a Australian 1988 Ford EA Falcon, fitted with an aftermarket turbo system. The car is basically standard, but the suspension has been lowered a little and stiffened with stronger springs and shockies. The 3.9 litre engine has been decompressed from 8.8:1 down to 8:1 to let him run 7psi boost without excess pinging. The factory specs for the car say that it's got 200kw (270hp), as it came from the aftermarket AIT factory in Melbourne. The torque available is absolutely amazing - There's no such thing as steep hills anymore ...
The car's a real 'sleeper', and it's great fun to blow away V-8's - Whilst towing a loaded trailer!"
