It does suck when your motor goes. It doesnt matter if its built or stock. It was your transportation that just let you down. Good luck with the build. It ought to be pretty good.

sounds pretty good, except I would go with aftermarket rods (eagle esp are pretty good for N/A builds). If you want to make good power, you will need to rev higher. VTEC engines make the most power at high RPM's, and LS rods just cant safely and reliably handle frequent 8K+ rpm pulls. $350 will get you a set of eagle ESP's with ARP bolts. Nopi has them for $342 plus tax/shipping, but they have a lot of coupons this time of year, so you may be able to get them for close to $300.

Summit has the rods cheaper than NOPI check them out and compare price for the rods for your Ls. On b20vtec they have a skunk2 vender that has a lot of new skunk2 parts on sale for the holiday season.

sounds like you are going to have fun with your ls/vtec build.
Just a note, go with SCAT rods they seem to be machined a little more precise than some of the eagles that my engine builder has seen.... safe bet if you are going to do the build yourself. Scats are no more $$ than eagles, and they are basically the same rod.
