Thinkin about it for school purposes and just to travel!! I feel like im stuck in a circle wher i am now.

Ive been lookin around for info without talkin to a recruiter until i know im sure i want to go.

im just clueless on how it all works, and the time frame it will take for me to do what i want in the military etc.

Dont listen to anything the recruiter tells you. They lie ALL the time. I had a friend that told me what they do. They have a quota on how many people they recruit so they will lie to you all the time. If you talk with them over the phone they have some kind of sheet that when you ask then X=question they will answer Y=lie to make you feel better about joining. Then once your IN the army you'll find out how ****ty its gonna be and how the recruiter lied to you. Why do you think recruiters go out of their way just to try to make someone join?

Well, speaking from experience let me break a few tings down to you.

1. If you decide to go, do NOT let them pressure you into something you don't want to do. The Nuclear program is good, Bosons mate is not. No matter how much they build it up, check everything first or you'll end up in a fox hole in the desert with Iraqi's up your ass 24-7.

2. Don't over shoot yourself. What I mean by that is this. If you go for, lets say, the Seals. If you get all gung ho, go for the program and wash out, you are at the mercy of the Gov'ment for the remainder of your enlistment. That means they can stick you ANYWHERE they want to and you will have zero say about it. You screwed up and washed out.

3. Check your job. specialty jobs like the seals or the Nuke program require 6 year elistments, (or they did when I was in). And see above, if you wash out, you are in for the entire elistment where they need you at the time, most likely at a roadside post checking Id's.

4. DO WELL IN SCHOOL!!!!11!!11!1. I cannot stress this enough to you. The top of your class has the best pick of places to go (least in the Navy). Also watch for emergency orders, cool places come up without warning and the topguys get the coices.

5. Don't be scared to go the hell places. I gave up orders to Yokuska Japan for a ship out of Florida. %$%%! retarded when I look back on it. I got to see 15 different countries, sample numerous hookers and many exciting things but knowing what I know now, I would have rather gone to Japan. So don't be scared to snap off the tit and go places.

6. Don't sign SH!T until you have other people read it. Those mofos will feed you a golden egg with a sh!t center to get their quota. Be careful.

And if your from the Kennesaw/Marietta/Canton Area... If you think about Navy... If a "Petty Officier Lane of da Unitd State Navie" Calls you... Hang up immediately. He common choice of words are... "thas was up" and "You sign up yet big dawg?". God he is annoying.
Im sure others have met him and know how much he lies to get people to sign up.
Howver being serious. Do it for you... Not for others. Do what you wanna do, not what other people. IE... If you want to fly planes go to the Air Force. Dont go gung ho marines just to say you are a marine. If you wanna fly, you go with the air force. Navy boys have a blast in tons of counties. I have multiple real good friends in the Navy. Their advice is boot camp and A school was really lame but the once your done with that its a 9-5 job and it is awesome.

i dont think people today realize that the primary purpose of a military is to defend the country and go to war if need be.

if you join the military, EXPECT to fight in a war, or see some sort of REAL combat. If nothing happens during your 4 year enlistment, then hey, you got off clean. BUT you cannot be upset if as soon as you get out of bootcamp or if you have 1 month left in your enlistment, you end up on a plane going to bumble**** to fight some towelheads.

school pay is a bonus, but that better not be your only reason for going, you will be in for a rude awakening.

2) so say you join for the purpose of being a SEAL. you dont get a secondary "career" as a backup (that you choose) if you wash out. If you wash out they can have you wiping the generals ass for 4 years and you wont be able to do **** about it????

Don't go in thinking you can be a Nuclear tech of you dropped out of High School and got your Good Enough Diploma. Because if you do, you will fail out of your A-school and then you are ****ed.

If you decide that Seals is the way for you to go, you will be required to sign a 6 year term. So you get ready to go, get to BUDS (Basic Underwater Demolition School) and start on. Now in the old days when you jut couldn't take it anymore you did "The walk" meaning you walked up to a large brass bell in the middle of the grounds and you rang it. The instructers encouraged you to drop out. Nobody wants a man who can't hack it watching their back. That is why the attrition rate in the Seals is staggering. Usually out of 110 people, 10 or less make it to the end of BUBS. 90%+ wash out.

Now, when you wash out you fall back on your rate. Because even as a Seal, you still have a rate. Such as Operations Specialist (my rate), Hull Technician and many more fun and exciting jobs in the US Navy. So when you wash out, and lets just say you are a Hull Technician, they will take you and say "Hmmm, where do we need a Hull Technician.....why we need one aboard the U.S.S. Monterey (my old ship). So they pack you off to the Monterey.

The Monterey is a cool and amazing looking ship that has one interesting flaw. In high seas, when the ship is a-rocking and a-rolling, the CHT tanks like to overflow into the Operations berthing compartments. Meaning CHT (Sh!t for the common man) bubbles up out of the drains and sloshes from side to side in the ship. When you get out of your bunk on a high side wave and then the boat goes the other way, a tidal wave of turds and piss comes at you like a Tsunami. Have a turd slosh up over your flip flop at 11:30 at night when you are half asleep one night and you will get the picture. Now on to the finale.

The great and rewarding job of fixing this, crawling into the poo tanks and cleaning up this mess usually falls onto the shoulders of...you guessed it, the Hull Techincians. So you earn your much rewarded nickname of all Hull Technicians, Turd Chasers. So you get to chase turds for tthe next 6 years.

I almost signed up for jet engine mechanic (they gave it a pretty name though). I changed my mind really quick after high school though.

Actually, you are wrong. The Chair force is terrible for travel because of what you just said. They give you a job and move you to a base. End of story. And there you stay, working on your jet engines day in and day out until you get out. Or you get shipped off to Iraq to work on the same jet engines.

You want to travel and see different countries and whatnot, join the Navy. I went in and saw 17 different countries, 3 of them twice and 1 of them 3 times. Ireland, Africa, France, Spain, Turkey, Israel, Cuba, Puerto Rico, italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Norway, Nova Scotia and a couple others I can't remember for the life of me. My boat got taken down by an 8 man seal team in less than 7 minutes, I got multiple hookers around the world, picked up by the US Secret Service in a presidential gun scare in Maine because my girlfriend at the time was riding around in a car firing off a cap gun and the SS put a tail on her and all kinds of other stupid but terribly fun ****.

The key to it is doing your best in school and being able to pick where you go. You want Pre-coms in the late stages of builds. That way you get the build time in port, Per diem (extra money for cost of living expenses, I think mine was an extra $800 per month for being in Maine) and then you get the Sea Trials time and most likely you will get to be a show ship to show off the power of the US Navy meaning you will get multiple ports of call, usually in cool and fun places like Ireland (Where they LOVE black men for all you brothers) and you will be out at sea for little to no time, just port after port of female goodness.

Sometimes I miss the Navy but I always miss the sea. It's badass. Nothing like walking down the side of the boat 2 inches ahead of a rainstorm. You don't get wet but right behind you is a freaking monsoon. Whales, Swim calls with people stationed with high powered rifles to fend off sharks, hookers, drunken brawls where you get to beat on people cause you are the shore patrol and drunks are your targets....sigh.

Yea i would suggest going into the navy like glides says. Reps whenever i can to Glides. Also IF you go into the marines then make sure you hurt yourself in some kind of way so you can get a nice check every month (I think) for a looong time.

im still in the process of deciding whether i want to go into the navy after i graduate college. SEAL team of course. but I dont wanna be on **** duty IF i were to wash out.....

I would def. advocate joining the military...

Everyone says that recruiters "lie," and they do stretch things a little bit. Just like the used car salesman trying to make the sale. I think the biggest mistake people make when they ask a recruiter questions is ASKING THE WRONG ONES, or NOT READING INTO WHAT THE RECRUITER SAYS.

I joined up with the AirForce in the delayed entry program my junior year as a crew chief on the MH53 Pavelow. When i got to techschool i made the sad sad mistake of not paying attention in class and being passed over for selection. I wound up in F15C crewchief school and didn't make the same mistake twice; graduated number 2 in my class and got sent to Langley AFB 1st FW 27FS (Fightin Eagles)... eventually being selected for the F22 maintenence program.

to make a long story short, i got out as an E4 (E5below the zone) after many exciting TDYs, one deployment, and once my enlistment stop loss (which is another thing entirely) was over, and came home.

Now have been working on private aircraft as an avionics installer for the past three years. Looking back on my military experience i wouldn't change anything...

Yes, at times it sucked... working on the flightline for 12-16 hours at a time in all types of weather... But it has paid off big time.

I would recommend it to anyone :) join up, have fun, enjoy it as best you can.

I just got out bro sometime ago, i was in the Army in a Armour unit. My unit was always deployed, if not down to kosovo, or Iraq we were always in the field. It depends on what you want to do man. Everytime i had plans on doing something to my car, we ended up going to Bosnia or something. And if your single, i would say go ahead. I was in Germany man, and i loved it. The people, the cars were pretty cool, and the food. As long as you stay outta trouble, and keep your nose clean, you will be ok. Now on recruiters. Yes some will lie to you, and if you want something, just make sure you get it in your contract. And your set. And if your a car freak, go into the Air force. Or the navy. Your guarnetted Japan then. But the Marines too, i lived in Japan for 9yrs. Loved it. All in all, if your single. Do it bro, good life expirence, well worth it. Traveling too. And meeting new woman. Dam, i married a german. You are absolutely correct. If you got the mental part down, the physical will come. All you have to do is not quit.

Few years ago, they changed the BUDS program. From what I know about it now, you no longer have to ring the bell once and you are out. I think you can ring it, then get counseled and make sure thats what you want to do and then go back to training. Someone told me up to 3 times, but I dunno.

If you want to go into the Seals make sure you get the training sheet from the recruiter. They have a piece of paper they will give you so you can start excersising ahead of time to get ready. Make sure you can do that, and more.

Also, if you are not dead set on Seals there are others that are cool. A buddy of mine was a Combat Controller in the Air Force. Those and Pararescue. There are a couple more special operations groups in the air force but I don't know them. S.E.R.E. is a pretty cool school to go too, which you will in the Seals training and if you are lucky, on a regular ship too. Our ship got 4 ballots to go. Rare but they are there. But anyway, Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape school. Good stuff. Some Classroom stuffs then you are out in the field to try and not get caught. Once you do, you are basically tortured (as far as they can, don't think physical contact is allowed now but in the early 90s, ouch) to see if you will crack. Don't.

Combat Controllers are basically Air Traffic Controllers that parachute into a hostile area first before most others and clear runways so that stuff can start happening. Cool ass Job, my friend now works for FATS (Firearm Training Systems) and loves it.

Pararescue is the **** far as im concerned. They are highly trained to fight and are medics in the field. Awesome thing to hit in my opinion. Plus you get medical training out of it too.

Then Force Recon of course for the Marines. Airborne and Green Berets for the Army. Lots of special forces to hit. Of course the Seals are considered to be the best, no offense to anyone.

So whatever you choose, just don't quit.

thanks for the info man. and as far as the S.E.R.E. thing goes, i know that in the SAS they have a similar training program. you run in the woods, and if you last x amount of hours or days (whichever it is) you pass. if you get caught they make your life living hell.... i didnt know the seals did that the SEAL's did that as well.... i mean it only makes sense but i just didnt know.

i know that theres about 18mo's to 2 years of training before you get assigned a team and see some real time action. i know that you are sent to the alaskan ________(some ****) for cold weather training. (personally i think that would be harder for me to deal with than hell week. the cold kicks my ass). and you go to the amazon jungle and the desert and other places.

all my life ive wanted to be a seal sniper..... or a sniper of some sort, because i can shoot pretty damn well. but idk if I would actually have the patience for it, sometimes i feel kinda ADD.


i mean you can spend HOURS upon HOURS just crawling to a spot to set up a shot. sometimes only move a couple feet in 4-5 hours. i dont know if i could do that....

Snipers are some of the most patient people on earth. Have to be. I believe the Seals go through Marine core Sniper training too, don't quote me on that but I do know they go through Army jump school and some other assorted cross force training.

There's always EOD, Exposive Ordinance Disposal, buddy of mine does that and he has cake duty. California, teaching dolphins to sniff land mines and save people at sea. Loves it. Check it all out man.
