View Full Version : Rex dash in hatch. Need a How-to.

So...as many of you have noticed, i've got the rex dash in my hatch. I put that thing in not really caring about all the details...but here's the thing. If you pay close attention, the edges don't fully match up with the a-pillars. I know there's a way to make them line up, but I lost the how-to. I'll give reps to anyone that can find that...cuz I'm thinking of doing a rex dash in the new hatch.

Else...I'm contemplating because when you take out a dash and put in a new one, you break tabs and clips and stuff, and it's work to get things to line stuff up and you almost always come out with a few misc. rattles and squeaks...so I'm in debate over putting in a new dash or running the GSR center on the hatch dash...but the lines aren't perfect. And that'll piss me off.

And finally...I like how the CRx dash turns towards the driver. Makes the car more personal to the driver. I've always envied rex's for it...

Oh...and also, I THINK my civic dash has a small crack in it over the glove box anyways. If that's the case, I'll most likely switch to rex dash...

Anyways, help me try to find it, and feel free to throw down opiniions...

Would be appreciated. I wanna say that's where I originally found it, but I did several searches with no prevail. For you, though, I'm not repping. It won't do anything for you. Instead, I'll buy you some yuengling.

And screw you and your crx! Bring her back to life!

If you don't rep me then I'm not going to find it. :tongue1:

...so do I need to rep you before you find it and just hope you find it? Or do you find it and risk what I threatened with not giving you reps?

Oh, snap, son...

And are you seriously wanting reps over yeungling?

Honestly, I'd recommend the GSR center console over the CRX dash. If you work slowly and a little methodically the CRX dash swap isn't hard. I did it with out a write-up. It basically went like this...remove hatch dash carefully, install CRX dash. The tough part was getting the dash wiring out of the old dash. The only thing that didn't line up for me was the lower center stack support. The tab for the stock dash support is about 3-ish inches forward of the one on the CRX dash.

I want both. I'm greedy.

You do realize it is a bolt in swap right?

That MAY be what's holding my dash up and not letting it settle... You can't tell without close observation, but if you check it closely, you can tell the center is higher than the sides. And the sides sit probably 1/4 or 1/2inch higher than where teh A-pillars flare out to meet the dash...

I know it's bolt in. Remember? I've done it :tongue1: But the lines just aren't perfect. I'm a stickler about the details. That's why I don't wanna settle for GSR center. That's why it's taken me FOREVER to do the suspension...and it's not even done yet...

Reviewing material now...

The CRX dash is nice. It caters to the driver.
But since it doesn't have an arm rest I just went with the GSR center.

Now I'm wondering if you can't have a CRX dash and GSR arm rest.
Basicly it would be a crx dash and console then switch out the e-brake cover for a GSR. I need pics.

Hmm...something to consider...I don't see why not, but I can't remember how everything is shape off the top of my head... I'll get back to you on that.

BTLFED - Didn't see what I was looking for. I know how to put it in, but when mine went in, the sides didn't QUITE line up perfectly. I was looking on how to perfect that..

Well I'm looking at Jeff's crx for reference: (hope he doesn't mind)

http://www.importatlanta.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132800

Do they come stock with arm rests?
And at that, can they be used for storage like the GSR?

I'm thinking you could adapt a GSR arm rest onto a crx console. But you would have to fabricate/modify some pieces.

Someone with a crx dash should get in here and clear this up...

Ben, next time we get together you need to sit in my car, and you'll see why the hatch dash/gsr center console is your best decision.

i agree w/ the rex dash "turning" twords the driver, that is really nice, but the cup holders and arm rest make the GSR the best bet... and mine lines up exactly, same with my dads.

just ask jeff if you dont believe it, he sat in my car and he pointed out how the center console comes flush to the dash nicely.

Its debatable which one is better. I comes down to what you like.

Since I've installed the GSR console I've used the sh!t out of it. The cup holders and arm rest that is. But the CRX also has an arm rest.

So basically I see it as: Which do you like more, cup holders or a tilted dash?
Both look good and flush in EFs, just which would you use more.

Well, I mean, cup holders would be pretty handy...but...I don't plan for eating and drinking to be done in the car when she's done... If ya'll knew how the interior was to be done...you'd understand...

Alan, by the "lines" I mean the trim line/cut the GSR has going down the side of it...I'll see if I can't show a picture of it later today when I get home from work.

CRXs don't come with armrests, at least not from the factory. There was a dealer option CRX armrest, but they're rare and hard to come across. I have one in my car, and it does open for extra storage.

Another option is an EK armrest, you just dremel the front edge to match up with the CRX console. I posted it once before:

For those wondering about an armrest with a CRX dash, an EK setup works nicely.

It doesn't give you cup holders though. I think if I had a hatch, I'd do the GSR console.

Well from what I have read and seen, you are the only person with that problem.

As far as having a CRX dash and an armrest:

I do. :ninja:
