View Full Version : General Chat But would it match...?

Uh...I'm about to be repainting my car. It's a 1991 Honda Civic hatch. It's got black interior. It's getting painted with a theme and I've got the options of two main base colors for the theme.

One color would just be like a black or dark graphite type color, and the other is a really crazy-dark blue that looks almost black until the sun hits it directly. I'm going complete with this project including painting the engine bay, jambs, and everything. I'd REALLY prefer this blue cuz it just pops. The black is...kinda basic, and everyone under the sun has it. I'd really prefer the blue...

My question is this...will the black interior look good on a blue exterior? Or do I need to switch back to the blue interior...? The blue is like a porn-type blue that you see in the base model civics...

The exterior is gonna look good, and the interior's gonna look good no matter which way I go with either... It's just that the general rule is you don't mix blue with black... So would the black on blue look good, or should I consider changing something (being either switching to the blue interior or black paint...)

Who told you not to mix blue with black?

I think it would look fly.

I thought it was just a general rule...like wearing a black belt with brown shoes...it's just not done...

PS - We're not talking about my current hatch. We're talking about the next hatch. :goodjob:

PPS - Where the hell you been? I aint' heard from you in forever...

Well, I have been in Auburn all weekend.

And Infiniti makes blue cars with black interior and I am sure most if not all the other manufacturers do, so I don't see the problem with black/blue.

Hmm...

Yeah, I'm probably gonna sell the current DD and switch over to this new hatch when she's done. If things go as planned, she'll be in paint late this week for the custom paintwork. Then I've just got to reassemble and ****...

PS - I've got two potential girls...so it'll be fairly soon Kelly's TOTALLY out. She's only around now for...when I need a female. And she knows it. And she knows what's coming. And she's NOT happy...LoL

Probably what's gonna happen...

Man, I just hate having to be patient with this project, man. I know patience pays, but DAMN I'm sick of waiting to get this thing done!

Eh...we're avoiding CF. Looking for a CLEAN look... Fron the exterior, when the car's done, I want people to only notice the paint (which will be semi-mild. not something that will jerk head's, but it will be something that will make people look twice) and the rims, and they'll have to ask themselves if the suspension has been done.

The rear will be converted to disc...but unless you somewhat know the cars, you won't even notice that. And even then, the discs are gonna be blanks. not slotted or CD'd.

Trying to keep it stock looking/sounding will be difficult to find an appropriate exhaust, though. I'll probably end up doing like two resonator's on 2" pipe all the way out the back, or I may cut/paste an Si exhaust... I don't know, we'll see. But I want it pretty quiet.

Oh, also, the windows are gonna be blacked out...

Kelly needs to be totally out OF THE STATE.
LoL. She can stay here. I'm going overseas. :goodjob:

PS - Thanks for moving me to Car Talk. I was debating where to put it and forgot all about this section...

We don't want her either!

And I didn't move it. I am tired and wasn't paying attention.

LoL, well, then, I retract my thanks...

Looks like ya'll are gonna be stuck with her. But then again, when I leave, she probably won't stay with Auto Technology long...and when that happens, I think she's considering moving either back to Auburn, or down to Florida...

i think i kow what blue you are talking about. VERY SEXY. The black interior will be fine. And, you will have the option later on of changing the interior color or just adding some nice dark blue accents.

if you wanted just a regular black then go with the Honda Nighthawk Black Pearl paint. That way you'll have blue/teal pearls and when the sun hits it right, you'll see em....

Hmm...I'll have to check that color out...

I work in a collision center...so it's easy for me to check colors out... :)

Thanks for the opinion, I'll definitly check it out. The problem with black is it shows scratches hardcore...same with dirt...so....I'm hoping to avoid it. Plus, the scheme...blue (dark blue) needs to come through to really pop with the scheme I'm riding with.

I'll post pictures when it's done, but we've still got a ways to go...

Haha, funny thing about this is that I've been kind of in the same dilemma with my car. The 02-03 black WRXs have a blue metal flake in the paint. 90% of the time the car just looks black, but under certain light, it definitely looks dark blue. Anyways, the dilemma comes in when I'm looking at wheels. I'm really thinking about getting black wheels, but I'm worried it would look off that 10% of the time my car looks blue.

But yeah, anyways with you case, I'd say leave the interior black.

Wheels painted to match FTW...

Check with bucky, wheelwizard, or sometimes a collision center like where I work...I work at Auto Technology right by the big chicken...

Dang...sounds nice.

That's the problem with that black, man. Well, any dark colors, really...you could make the damn thing sparkle...and an hour later (especially in rain) and you look as though you've not bathed it in months...
