A new year is coming around the corner and everyones want a new car. Well i happened to be one of those people...:D I was thinkin for gettin a 05 up STI because i love how it handle and turns. I test drive 3 STI already and love it, but then i test drive the EVo 8 and I love it too, but then i don't know which to chose...it like doing rock, paper, scissors shoot!!! YOU know wat i mean!!
I was thinkin if everyone or the owner of the STi and EVO can give me a little detail of how the car handle or ride and why u chose that car,
Thanx for ur times :goodjob: :goodjob:
u will get some replys tomorrow ;)

Honestly you can't go wrong with either car. Great bang for the buck. Both cars WILL be very reliable IF you take care of it. I have an Evo, but it was a toss up since I loved and drove both cars before making my decision. In the end there were several factors that pushed me to the Evo. Looks, big power for cheaper, way better "feel" while driving(to me anyway). Also, I really preferred the 5 speed gearbox(non MR) as opposed to a 6 speed only in the STI. You feel like you are rowing a boat with such short gear ratios. Like everyone said above, it all depeends on what you want out of it. Remember that both cars are built for performance and sacrifice some amenities to focus on giving you the most bang for the buck in performance. There are other cars with better fit and finish, but that doesn't matter to me as much. :2cents:

i'm saying just in general.
however, i wouldn't mind seeing someone go out on a limb and buy one of the new Evo X's. granted, both the new evo and sti are both butt-f*cking-ugly, i think the evo is the lesser of two evils... while the sti seems to get progressively uglier and uglier every year. subaru's design team should seriously wake the hell up.

If you plan on staying just bolt ons and very mild mods. Id say go with the sti. The sti has more driver comfort. Like it has a six cd changer, CRUISE CONTROL, climate control. Just some things that you would probably like in the future. But if you plan on working on your own car all the time, plan on making some good power, I'd get an evo. Working on an evo is like working on a honda. Evos can make 400whp on stock turbo just bolt ons. And make 500whp on stock block and even stock ecu. Both are really personal preferance and those are my person preferances.

Very good point. :goodjob:
Honestly b/c of insurance cost I went with a STi.
(80+ more a month for the evo)
I plan on the a full cosworth engine and a 35r kit but for now its way more comfort then evo would be going back and forth to work and the interior is better IMO... but seats on those evo are nioce.. Suby is safer!
(too bad we dont get seat choices like europe and japan)
I have driven willumpb14's evo from stock to the beast its growing to be..So i have a decent amount of knowledge of both cars

Just like WickedIXMR said, everyone has diffrent taste in cars. With bolt on's, on both cars. They would be making around the same wheel horsepower, if you're looking for the fastest of the two. Go with the Evo, both cars look real nice tho, I personally like the 06+ STi over an Evo.

headers intake exhaust and you will pull 11's-10's down a track <--- exaggeration-maybeJust a slight exageration, stock can run low 13's. With CAI/H/DP/HFC/CB it can run uber low 12's(12.1's).Gut the interior a bit and you can hit high 11's but you are gonna burn a few gallons of fuel each run.
Trust me, I know Chevy.

hell ****ing no with the same bolt ons they dont make the same power wtf evos respond better to the mods plus when u mod and sti u have to get tune or u will be runing rich as **** and hiting fuel cuts all day

An Evo with a TBE/I/Flash should put down around 300whp. Same for the STi, with a TBE/I/Flash, it too should put down around 300whp. Of course the Impreza will put down more torque due to it's extra half liter. Still, the Evo comes with a slitly bigger turbo from factory, so of course it will boost more psi and have slitly better topend. So it makes up for it.
In the end, if you want to compare the two in a straight line race or test. It will come down to who is the better driver.
ps; I would go with an STi, I just love that boxer exhaust tone.

yo calm down angry child. You said in a straight line it comes down to the driver. I've seen a ton of stock sti getting waxed by stock evo on the HWY and strip. The sti may have more TQ but the turbo sucks after 6k. Also unless you have a 07 the gearing sucks on the strip bc you have to shift to 5th b4 u cross the line where the evo doesn't.

Just cause the turbo gives out around 6k doesn't mean you can't keep going all the way to 7500rpm. No lift shifting also helps, you hold boost while shifts and keep pulling. It all comes down to the driver, like I said already twice.

Another point for the person that started this thread, if your going to work on this car yourself the get a evo. The sti is a pain in the ass to work on. Ex: changing spark plugs

1. 90% of the people in this thread don't know what they are talking about.
2. The STI is not hard to work on.
3. The STI and the EVO on track in stock form lap within a .10 seconds of each other.
4. The STI is a better track car, I put over 10,000 track miles on a stock motor making 470whp.
5. The Transmission in the STI is way better.
6. The EVO feels cheap
7. The steering on the EVO is much nicer.
8. The EVO has an Oil cooler
9. You need to buy an Oil cooler for an STI.
10. They are both awesome cars, I've had both on track on multiple occasions as far as stock performance goes they are very close. Modified I would rather have the STI.
11. This is the Big One....If its going to be you're daily driver the STI is flat out a better car.

no reason to shift past 6k in an STi, the vf39 runs out of breath and starts tapering boost

no reason to shift past 6k in an STi, the vf39 runs out of breath and starts tapering boostOf course not, never said you had to. Just saying you could. On a subaru on stock turbo; Wrx/STi both start tapering at around 5k. They both hit max boost around 4-5k. The 39 could be pushed til redline, I mean no need of course. But shifting around 7k isn't going to make that much of a diffrence than if you were to have shifted at 6k.

actually you would benefit by shifting by 6k since you wouldn't lose ground in the 1500 rpms that the vf turbo falls flat on its face. during that 1500 of rpms that boost is tapering...you are NOT accelerating and you are losing ground to another car that is
and if you correctly shifted before 6k it would put you right back in the sweet spot of the powerband so that you will still be accelarating with plenty of rpms to go.
i can rev my all the way to boost cut, but its not doing me any favors since i'm losing boost
so yes there is benefit on a stock turbo'd subaru in shifting before 6k

only thing i don't like about mitsubishi or the evolution is that they don't offer a lower powered version(like the wrx impreza) it's just the high powered evolution or the **** lancers, lol, they need one with about 225HP like the imprezas, that'd be awesome.

There are plenty of guys that have made 540whp on a stock sti motor, I'm not sure that you can do anymore than that with a stock evo.
