On Snake ownership? Seriously, I walk into Garage sale and I see at least two thread of people selling snakes. One of them was 8ft long.....

I understand loving pets, cats...dogs...gerbils....hamsters..., but snakes? You also have to feed them little animals right?

My question is WHY?

they just want something exotic and different. Its just like people who spend $500+ on a fish, you just look at. Plus some find it interesting to watch snakes eat. :2cents:

Haha, come on George.

Maybe it's because
Snakes don't shed or bark?

I've never owned one, but they are pretty neat to look at.

Think about it, you could tie your shoes using your snakes as shoe laces.

You can't wear your Golden Retriever around your neck like you can your snake, I mean you could try... but you might get some looks.

You could floss with your snakes.

You could be a dealer, and have your snakes swallow you entire stash.

You could make a swing set, made of your snakes.

I'm just saying, due to the lack of appendages... you can do all kinds of **** with them.

A real multi-purpose pet.

A friend of mine had a 7ft boa. He said he found snakes very calming & owning one was like therapy for him. I guess in the same way some elderly people find companionship with cats, he found relaxation with his boa.

i have had snakes in the past...they are fun to handle but it gets old after a while. they do shed but its easy clean-up unlike dogs and cats. the best part is feeding them. go to the store, buy some rats and break out the camera. ive got a bunch of pics of my last snake annihilating some rats

It was around the same time I realized I don't know what I'm talking about.

Scale soup anyone?

I've got a snake...cool little thing, pretty friendly, and pretty low maintenance. I don't understand why people keep fish... :dunno:

People keep fish; so that when they give themselves an enema, they can do the equivalent of putting an aquatic gerbil up their ass.

Nemesis, just because you're scared of snakes doesn't mean that everyone else is. I wouldn't mind having a snake, my friend had one and they're pretty cool and laid back. But they do get boring after a while.

I had one for a while, but had to sell when I moved. Real low maintence, just clean a shed a few times a year, and drop a mouse in there every now and then. And keep water bowl full. But yea, kinda boring, lol they dont really do anything if they are not eating.
