The question of whether it's an Allison or Eaton transmission has been answered. Some self-research and an update from a Toyota source confirms it's an Eaton and not the Allison, which we were verbally told the first day the Tundra Diesel Project was shown.

It's big - inside and out. Toyota's Tundra Dually Diesel CrewMax has arrived at SEMA with an 8.0-liter I6 Hino oil burner under its hood.

The press kit for the Tundra Dually Diesel will be published tomorrow, but preliminary info on the Hino motor is that it's rated in the neighborhood of 300-horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Gears are swapped using an Eaton 5-speed manual transmission.

There had been some rumor this truck might debut with a Caterpillar diesel, but Toyota made the decision to stay within the family. Hino is a member of the Toyota Group of companies.

Brian Smith, Toyota's corporate marketing manager, says, "The Tundra Dually Diesel is a concept in true SEMA tradition. It’s meant to show off the wilder side of our trucks."

http://www.pickuptruck.com/IMAGES/autoshows/sema2007/toyota/tundradiesel/tundradiesel5.jpg

And showing off that wilder side means this Tundra has driven past the heavy duty segment. It also uses Hino rear running gear and brakes, swiped off Hino’s medium duty chassis trucks.

Toyota may or may not have secret plans to enter the heavy duty segment in the next few years, but if it does we're betting that future Tundra HD won't be setup anywhere like this one-of-a-kind hauler.

Inside is a custom leather interior and the biggest stick shift this side of a semi. If that tall stick isn't enough to prompt the driver they're in something beyond Class 3, the instrument panel also helps. The tach goes red at only 2,600 rpm. There's also Tekonsha electronic brake controllers integrated in the dash.

Outside, the custom tow mirrors and front bumper are brushed steel and the skin has been painted with a matte gray finish. It rides on 22-inch wheels. Open the doors and running boards automatically deploy from under the cab.

The bed houses a 24K-pound fifth wheel hitch and preliminary information suggests that this truck is rated to tow that same amount. We'll confirm tomorrow after Toyota gives the official word.

The Tundra Dually Diesel was custom built for SEMA by Toyota Motorsports Garage in Torrance, California. http://www.pickuptruck.com/html/autoshows/sema2007/toyota/tundradually2.html

Diesel Power FTW!!!

This one looks so much better than the Tundra that's on the market now. I don't like that random black strip on top of the grille surround. It's absent here, and that does so much for it.

#2 is what I'm referring to...

lol at peanut butter remark. I heard something about this a couple of months back but I heard they were gonna be in by end of next year. If they do go through with this(and they most likely will as they are the fastest growing car company on the face of the eart) the domestic car companies are going to be in even more trouble as this will probably beat out the F series diesel's in production form

i guarantee you with the sales volume on the new tundras and the incredible gas mileage(20+mpg) with 400 hp they will make this truck. and it will sell unbeleivably well. take them a couple years to prove it but it will go big!!! :2cents:

I just bought a 07 Tundra Crewmax so I'll sell you my 07 Crew cab Tacoma for a good price.

I bought the Tacoma in Feb and it has 23K highway miles on it because I use it to go out of state every week.

It is a TRUCK engine.

This one looks much better than the available Tundra. When it comes to trucks though...I'd always go American. GMC Sierra with the Duramax Diesel...

thats right. my truck looks better and last longer. the new tundras look horrible and are suppose to be so badass, now there getting recalled at 30k poping motors. i have over 90k on all the factory drivetrain. top that toyota!!! :lmfao:

:D

BTLFED
11-05-2007, 08:30 PM
If you say so. This the first year for that truck really, and if you look at Toyota's past trucks they DO last forever. They just need to do a little tweaking to get it 100%.

But you are a closed minded American Truck owner so I don't expect you to think anything otherwise.

There isnt a recall on any toyota engines for them "poping". Infact there have been VERY few problems with the tundras, so im not sure where you are getting your information from. toyotas easily pass 90k on factory drivetrain

I knew I should have asked you before I posted LOL!

I figured it was pretty far fetched, but just in case I didn't want to call him stupid.

Sidenote: My 4Runner has 120K on the factory engine and drivetrain. ;)

To further solidify my point check out the known TSBs on an 07 tundra. http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/tsbs/tsbsearch.cfm

There are 6 total right now and a few of them are small things like resetting the oil change light. Compare that to you dodge, chevrolet, ford whatever. Its a compelling argument right from the government's own site
