So i got a 97 civic hatch dx manual. just blew the motor last week looks like a rod let go or something. big hole in oil pan from what i can see. trying to decide what to do with it.

so what wrong with the car is the blown motor, bad cv joints, will need brakes, clutch, and tires soon as well.

so i guess what i'm asking is should i fix it (stock engine or maybe y8 motor), part it out, sell it as-is, or engine swap it?

if i put in a new engine, i can do the work no problem, just don't have alot of money to put into it ($500 at most prob) and i can drive my mustang untill i get it done.

Where are some good places to get a new motor from? what all do i need to add the y8 vtec motor with minimal issues?

in that case...tow it to a shop and have them weld up the hole in the block...it should run that way

$500... your options are very limited. Save your money or get a loan and get a B18B (LS) engine. They are pretty strong engines, and generally can take more of a beating than a D series (B18B has 140hp stock). Also, They have a lot more power and torque than any stock D series engine. You can get the engine, tranny, ecu, axles, and pretty much all the other parts you will need to do the swap for about $1500 (if you want to keep A/C and P/S, if not, you can do the swap for closer to $1200)

IF your short on cash, then just buy another D series motor.

I have a complete swap that runs came out of a 98 DX that im asking $400 for. Its clean, low mileage and runs great.

Customer did a GSR swap so he no longer needs it.

If you can do the work yourself, then buy the motor i have an youll have $100 left over

Its just a DX civic motor with like 80K on it. Car ran great, never abused, customer just swapped it for a GSR.

Its complete with Transmission, ecu, etc.

Good luck getting anything from an importer, your best bet is an OBD1 D15b SOHC VTEC. Its usually $550-600 for one but its not OBD2 so it will be hard to pass emissions
