so i don't think we have a thread dedicated to this but it would be helpful to start one... basically anything to do w/ scammers and shady business tatics... i got owned yesterday on something i thought was legit that most people probably would fall for...
so i have my resume out on a couple sites and it has been passed around... well i got an email a couple weeks ago from a company PRIEMERICA and the person was like "hey can you give me a call at your earliest i have some questions about your resume and would like to go over some possible opportunities with our company."
i was like cool i'll check it out never know what type of employment opportunity is just around the corner. so i call, start talking to the guy and we make some small talk about my current job, work history, etc... so he sets me up a time for me to come in and meet. he sends me an email with directions and it says "I look forward to meeting you in person. I have you setup for our 2:00pm orientation." Well immediately I was like WTF "orientation" kinda a wierd word to use. I get there and they have like 10 other people there as well... basically they use that tatic to get people in so they can get them to buy into this pyramid scheme to sell mortgages/life insurance/etc... there was no real position but just an opportunity for them to pull in people looking for jobs. i was pretty pissed off and gave this guy and ear full for wasting my time.
a friend of mine told me he had another type of job scheme happen to him recently...
my friend just moved to Tampa with his wife. Someone called him saying they had got his resume and wanted to start his hiring process but needed his SSN. (obviously he didn't give that) He said he actually got 2 different phone calls with this same scenerio.
those are two... i'm sure you guys have more you can add.

Ah man, before I got hired at Red Hat, and my resume was on CareerBuilder, I had shady ass people all day long offering me things that I knew were too good to be true. I need to find some of those emails.

lol primerica... yeah i went to one of those seminars a long time ago. It's real easy to pick out a pyramid scam from a legit company. Pyramids use their "employees" as rats.

ya man i was pretty pissed b/c i actually took 1/2 a day off of work and it ended up being a scam. i plan on turning them into the BBB for bad practices. it would of been pretty easy to spot it as a scam over the phone if they didn't use my resume to pull me in.

dont... that will actually be wasting your time. Primerica is one of the biggest Pyramid companies on the planet. you can definatly make money doing it but it takes a lot of time and effort.... and you wouldnt start seeing good money for months

LOL, we have one of those deals couple doors down from me. They're a "marketing" company and get people to come in and try and hock their sh*t to folks on the street. Never see the same people two weeks in a row. But I must say, it is a parade of hot b*tches coming in and out of that joint.
i went to one of those too once... i think it was primeramerica too... i cant remember its been a while...
i laughed and left.

Exactly. And unlike Cutco knives (remember those) then you're actually dealing with perishable items. I had a friend that actually made a good bit of money selling Cutco. I'm not exactly sure how he did it but I'm guessing he was just fortunate enough to know a lot of wealthy housewives.

I got the call from them too.
I turned them down.
I thought it was odd that I said I was a mechanic and wrecker driver at the time, but they wanted me to train customer service people? :lmfao:
