To start with, I have the Canon Powershot A540.

With a ring adapter, I can get the various lenses for it. Telephoto and wide angle and such. I shall be receiving one this coming Xmas and was wondering about the different sizes. I see the 2.2, 2.5 3.2 sizes on telephoto lenses. Is it as I think it is and the higher the number the better? Can someone explain to me this stuff? I see HD lenses, also. Thanks. Later, QD.

lenses for p&s's and dslrs are a little bit different.

i dont know what zoom range your camera is, but say you get 100mm without any lenses, if you buy a 2.2, you effectively get about double (220) "reach" with your camera. im assuming the numbers 2.2, 2.5, and 3.2 are magnification sizes, if not then i have no idea -.-

quality of the image is usually degraded though, but if you arent going to be making big prints anytime, you should be ok.

I am not planning on printing or really large pics. Later, QD.

With point and shoots you are correct. The higher the number the more of a range it will give you by manipulating the focal range of the lens. The lower the number on the wide angle the wider the field of view.
