remove the remote wire and see if it powers on. you will need to hook it back up to prevent draining the battery, but that could help narrow down the problem. if its brand new, it should have a warranty in case it doesnt work. assuming its hooked up correctly, i would check your connections. maybe its not grounding out properly. try sanding down the grounding point if you havent already

You need it. It tells the amp to turn on. 12volt remote turn on wire from back of head unit.

without the remote wire, if its hooked up correctly, then the amp will be on all the time and will drain your battery

sure you didnt hook up the wires wrong? tried a new grounding spot? you do have it grounded to the frame right?

I have actually never had an amp just stay on when I had no remote wire. In fact it shouldnt. The remote wire just completes the circuit and make everything power on when it is powered on, and off when it is off. Without it the amp wont do anything. This is me speaking from personal experience only though.

And I learned the same way you did man so just keep doing your thing. I had my dad to help guide me through it and after the first initial install I have done all my own installs including tv's, DVD players, numerous high wattage systems, and more. Its that first initial learning experience and then you finally understand how audio systems work and then everything else just seems easy. +1 for doing it yourself most people dont want to take the time to learn and just pay someone.

the blue or blue/white wire coming off the headunit harness is the remote. Run a 16awg wire from there to the remote terminal on your amp. The amp will not turn on without running that wire or running a 12v constant ot the remote terminal on the amp.

if you just want to check the amp's functionality, just jump a wire from your current 12v constant terminal, into the remote's terminal at the amp. Although im willing to bet there's nothing wrong with that amp, Alpine's DOA products are few and far between...
