View Full Version : General Chat SO IT'S TIME FOR A NEW CAR.............

So as the title reads, it's time for me to get a new car... I currently drive a BMW Z4 3.0. Owning this car has had its ups and downs but overall, it has been fun....The problem: It is no longer practical......I have kids and I need something bigger....I had a Landrover until recently, my ex wife's car took a dump and I gave it to her because she needs a way to transport my kid and get to work.

I've been looking @ several cars.....I don't really want to get into another bimmer because I don't want to make bimmer payments anymore, not to mention the fact that it costs more money to modify a Europen car than it does most Japanese cars....Just as an example in the 4 months that i owned my car, I spent 15k on mods and I could have bought a car for that much.....

So here's my dilemma...I'm not sure what I want....
I like the newer (04-07) Subaru WRX STI's but I have no experience with modding Subaru's......I love the appearance and the performance potential of this car......But I also know there are other choices out there as well...

So on to my questions: Those of you that drive WRX's or STI's, how do you like them? Are they worth the money? Reliable? How do you like its modability?

and does anyone have any suggestions for a four door car that is sporty but practical at the same time.....?

I agree and as much as I love Bmw, reliability is not a strong point, hence the ups and downs.........

A regular WRX is a good car for a family. Sporty, four doors, safe, reliable, and not to mention your kids will like getting picked up from school in the cool car. :goodjob:

I'm considering the following cars: WRX, WRX STI, the new Lexus IS, I would love a Lexus GS but they don't come with manual trans, and the Evo.

I've also been wanting a Merceds E55 AMG, one of the older gen models but again, no manual......I've lusted after the E39 BMW M5 and Audi's S4 but reliability plays a part in my reluctance to seriously consider those two cars.

I'd have one if I could afford it, though.

:goodjob: . The Quattroporte is a bad azz car....One of my coworkers has one.
I just don't think I'd be wanting to make those high azz payments.....

I guess I'm trying to stick in the 20-40k price range realistically.....
It would suck to pay more for a carnote than I do on my mortgage....

1. How much power would you like to have?

2. Are you looking for a new or used one?

3. www.wrxatlanta.com

I could answer your questions if you want, or you could sign up and browse that forum and have your answers answerd by people that know exactly what they're talking about. And have alot more knowledge about Impreza's then this place.

1. I'm not looking for an insane amount of power really.....I'd prob just do basic bolt ons and nothing more.

2. New but if I found a used one at a good price and unmolested or in really good condition I'd consider it.

3. Thanks. I will make sure to browse that site.

So if you're not thinking on getting a bigger turbo and go all out. I would go with the STi. A basic bolt-on STi tuned would put you right at low 300whp. All you would need would be a downpipe, exhaust, and EM. You could get an intake if you want that pssh sound, but its not really needed. Til you're making alittle bit more.

I'll be back to answer more questions, im about to jet.

You're right but have you seen Porsche Cayenne S prices..?
and the basic Cayenne is def not worth the money...
I'm going to test drive a BMW x5 this weekend as well as the Mercedes ML....

But I def wanted to attempt to stay w/something sporty and manual......

It's kinda hard to find a balance between luxury, sport, and realibility.........

STi is a very good platform to mod. WRX not so much since everything on the car is weaker. You should be able to get 04-05 STIs for low 20Ks. Finding an unmolested one will be much harder since most of the guys who buy WRXs and STis mod them at least with bolt-ons.

With the stock turbo, exhaust, and a tune you should be up above 300whp. Minor suspension mods make rather large handling differences. If you get one dont even both getting an intake, intercooler, or BOV as all work very well until you get a larger turbo.
