Hey guys I need some help with my brother in-law's car. he drives a 1983 lesabre and we believe that the torque (http://www.buickforum.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1248&PN=1#) converter went bad..!

The car doesn't move forward when it is on "Drive" and once it gets rolling to a higher speed the car will not be OK but it will be driveable.

We want to go buy a new torque convertor but we can not figure out what trasnmission came with the car. So here is the question:

Is there a code stamped in the transmission that we can read to find out what transmission we have?

I've called summit racing, advance auto parts and no one can tell me what torque converter (http://www.buickforum.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1248&PN=1#) I need...!

I've also researched the net and haven't found noting close to what I need. here it it hat I got so far from this website:

Every place I've called have different opinions about what we have, and I would like to try to cross reference some type of numbers off the tranny to know for sure what we need to buy.

Well, thanks to Eric we have a game plan now...:D

The car came with a oldsmobile 307 which is a 5.0L 4B carv.

We will change the TC and see if it helps and if nothing happens Eric will help us with rebuilding the tranny.
