I'm going to be getting my license in the next few months and I was wondering a good sports car that's reliable as a daily driver but isn't too crazy for a beginner.
I've actually been kind of looking into the Evo's (probably wrong idea for a beginner driver) and not sure wether the Evo 8 and up are good daily drivers.
Also if the 89-94 240sx are practical because if I cannot find a good newer type car, then I'd go to the 240.
Some ideas of any cars would be nice, but a semi-newer type of car is best because parents want me to be safe in a new car than not in an old cheaper car. Any ideas would be great.

Dont get a 240 they break a LOT, I dont know how you are getting an Evo how old are you? Get a Civic, RELIABLE, fun, can be made fast, LOTS of parts, etc. Also it's FWD so you cant drift. ;)

well since u seem to have alot of money....for a good car id say lexus is300 or a Miata...both great reliabe cars

Actually I don't have quite a lot of money, but I've seen a few evo's that aren't above the 23k range. Though that is actually quite a lot of money anyway :screwy: So maybe the Evo is out of the question

Thanks for the advice, but I'm not really looking for a FWD car, although FWD cars are great, after I get older and more experienced, I don't realy want to go through a bunch of cars, so I want to see like if my first car could be the one I stick with for a long time and change it up from there.
Mainly the cars are probably <20k

Hell, for 20k, you could probably find a new body style MX5, or at least a mazdaspeed NB Miata.

Actually, I'd shoot for a MazdaSpeed MX5. Light, small, RWD, turbo, but not TOO crazy, a BLAST to drive.

Haha I gotta include all the details in one post, forgot I'd want a 4 seater, because to me 2 seater seems impractical, just because transportation stuff here and there. Though the MX5 does sound quite nice. :goodjob:

Why don't you just follow trend and get a Civic?

dodge viper r/t is a good platform to start with.

dodge viper r/t is a good platform to start with.LOL!

The Evo is a nice car. The biggest issue with it is the clutch. It's hydraulic. If you drive it right, it's not really an issue. The only problem with an Evo is they don't really hold their value for resale. The STI holds their value a little better.

I'm a bandwagon ho... and I think the 240 is the best bang for the buck with the most potential. That's just my personal opinion. They don't always break unless you have the wrong people working on them, I guess.

Good luck with whatever you choose. It's all a matter of opinion and you sound like a decently smart guy. Sounds like EVo, STI or 240 may be up your alley to me.

My 300zx convertible...you know you want it...

MK3 supra, if your into muscle id say camaro or firebird, You can find an N/A MKIV supra for around the 10-15k range. There was one for sale here in Columbus 5 speed and targa for 9000 so it is possible. SRT4 is FWD but it is a nice car at that.

the 240 is an awesome platform for cheap power, even the CHEAP ca18det can handle 300whp pretty easily wiht some mods

if you got under 20k, just go get a riced out scion from the dealship, and call that a day- or buy a 2500$ civic and put 18grand into it and have a rocketship...thats my 2 cents

miata. tons of miatas available, tons of aftermarket support (and I mean real support, not typical import tuner catalogue support). less likely to get stolen, less likely to get noticed by cops. go to an autocross or hpde and you'll find yourself amongst brethren, lots of them. buy the NB, the 1.8L one, quick enough so you're not bored to death, but slow enough for you to concetrate on developing the driver, not the car.

99 miata. about 8-9k stock. do suspension, intake, exhaust, and hard dog rollbar and you got yourself a pimp ass car... add wheels and even better. you can do all that for about. 13000$. they are the most fun, reliable, cheap car you can get... but ya if your worried about 4 seats.. maybe an rx7 2+2? idk what your into but the miata would be a winner for sure.

no offense....but coming from someone that had a RX-7 for 1st car....not best choice,if i knew then what i know now i would have kept it...but damn gas is killer in the 7...miata are very fun cars,u have never had more fun in 0-60 than in a mx-5...plus great gas milage.

id go with the mazdaspeed miata, most of them still have a warranty, decent starter car, great handling, decent gas millage not great, extremely reliable(i have a 99 and drive the living piss out of it and its still going. sees 8k rpm daily), good on insurance comparatively, although not cheap for repair parts.

Thanks for the replies. Miata with the bench sure sounds interesting.
It seems like I'm more heading for the 240 just because it's way cheaper, and although I never thought of the whole passengers+noob driver=screech crash boom, I'm not going to weld a bench to my trunk later in the future because I really want this car to pretty much last me way into the future because I've seen people cycle through cars like no tomorrow.

yeah new driver and torque steer always a great combination

sTeadFasT
10-13-2007, 10:50 AM
Haha yay for torque steer!
I mean I'm not going to be doin' anything crazy with the car until I get more experienced, probably sounds contracdictory for me to say I'm not going to be trying anything "fun" on the road.

Did you guys ever think hard about what car you guys wanted when you guys first started?

only thing bad is the paint.. roof is fading and paint aint no more than $1500 for a decent job
