i personally use Batlground, Mahdavi, Eurotech, Evolution Autodesign, & Sprayglo :goodjob:

Batlground: probably one of the hottest new shops putting some of the fastest ride out, i do all of my dyno time there, & tracy has a nice arse

Mahdavi: this is the 3rd car i've working on there, & the Mahdavi brothers have always kick ass, very down to earth, and can get you what you need to go fast. Very first shop i ever went to and will continue to support them.

Eurotech: the guys at EPG are the best around for vw/audi if you got one and need work done take it to the pros

Evolution AD: very cool guys and they have tons of cool products from custom dash kits to floor mats to stickers, they do all of IA's stickers/banners/promo material, they are the bomb!!!

Sprayglo: they do all of my paint/body work, they do good work for cheap, you can't argue w/ that.

we have tons of great shops we work w/ here on IA there isn't a shop i wouldn't recommend.

I use MainStream Performance/SRZ Racing, but i do my own work, how cool is that :) We will have the highest whp all motor B series in the state, i gurantee it

other shops that i will support are:
Import Source Performance, I trust Bee and Peter with their knowledge, excellent guys, even though my allmotor car > Peters Turbo car :)

BatlGround, never had work done there, but i love tracy, and have seen some fast cars come out of their shop

AutoDreams, cause my old boss works there and i trust him

I do all of my own work unless it gets to something I can't but I will/would support :

Batlground: I know tracey and trust her with what would need to be done. And she does have a nice arse.

Autodreams: I have known the manager for several years and trust him.

Mainstreet Performance/SRZ Racing: I have met mike a couple of times and through friends and on here I know he knows his sh*t about honda motors so I would trust him.

Proud to say with the exception of getting my AC fixed, and my car painted I've done everything myself. I have a hard time trusting people. People treat other cars different than they would their own. When I had my first car at 16 and took it to a shop or dealer I swear either something was scratched, fucked up, or wasn't fixed everytime. From then on I decided I would just learn to do it myself.
Now, if I just had an AC machine, paintbooth, and alignment rack I wouldn't need anyone.

If I had a crazy turbo setup I would need someone to tune it, but I don't plan on doing that.

--I use Yellow River Collision, Not listed, as do MANY IA show guys. A lil more $$ BUT you get a warranty even on full custom. Beat that!
--I have used ETP, Brian was nice and worked w/ me well. He did good work at a great price. However, He doesnt return calls for $hit (Still waiting after 4 days, and not the first time this has happened)...I DO NOT like what he sells though.
--Assist Racing is my Turbo shop choice. They did work on my car Jamels, and do alot w/ MM. Scott at Assist is THE best in ATL.
--I have only dynoed at DynoLab, I like driving my own car on the rollers since I know my car the best. I need to watch gauges and monitor things only I know about.

--Audio Pro and Traffic jams are both good choices. I love Diamond Audio dealers period. Chris at AP treats me well when I need stuff, as does Dan and Matt at TJ. I prefer TJs custom installers. John Morgan (Now at TJ) Coy Roberts, and a new one coming that is THE MAN...Cant tell who it is yet, but TJ is gonna have THE install staff)
-- Finally, Mahdavi Motorsports. They dont claim to know it all, but know ALOT more than most. They are easy to work with, friendly outside the shop, and race thier own cars week in and week out. They have always had competitive prices when I needed parts, and work w/ a sense of urgency, to help expedite your service stop. Props to Sam and Arash for keepin Gwinnett fast for numerous (6-7?) years now...

What exactly are things that only you know about? I'm pretty sure most shops that dyno cars may know what to look for to make sure shit doesn't explode.

If my #s are low, or strangely high I wanna know why, IE, I know what my boost levels should be at at certain RPMs, on that particular octane setting. Do they? Nope. can they watch my boost gauge and tell me what my N75valve is doin w/ boost creep, or at lower RPMs when it sometimes gets irratic? Doubt it.
Until a dyno can show me boost and rpms on a plotted graph simultaneously, I wanna pilot my car. To think dyno operators know your car is ignorant...some do, some dont. I cant afford to learn which dont.
Also, ALOT of cars pop on the rollers, most dyno shops look for you to say stop if something is goin wrong, if you arent in the car, its a few seconds that can cost alot of $$.

Besides, The SAFEST place to be during a dyno pull is IN the car, not standing near it.

07-25-2005, 09:22 PM
well this poll pretty much sums it all up huh? I was wondering where I should go without the shops themselves whoring to me. although it is pretty close, between 3 places. do they all have AWD dyno's too? by the way in the D-I-Y argument, shops usually have the tools to do the job right or quicker. as much as i would like to claim I do everything myself I have had to go to shops for many jobs.

CMO
07-25-2005, 09:41 PM
^^^^ that man right there said it best. ALot of people take their cars to the shop cause they don't have all the tools, the space or time to do the job. Me I try to keep all the tools around that I need. I would love to have a lift though but right now I don't have that kind of space. Hopefully that will be taken care of in a few months though. Plus alot of peeps only have one car so they can't afford to have it down for less than a day.

Very valid points:)! I know you already said that "some shops do some shops don't" all of the things mentioned above and I agree. I just think that shops who don't know these things shouldn't be dynoing. That's all part of tuning in my eyes. Who would be qualified to tune your car if they didn't know about looking for boost creep? Or if they didn't know what your car should make on that certain octane? I absolutely think that you should be able to drive your own car on the dyno....that's why we provide that option, but I just don't think anyone should be tuning if they don't know these things that you are concerned about.

Everything is pretty much handled by either myself or my boyfriend. Raceworks put the motor in and if I'm completely stumped with something I'll give the mechanic Joey a call. Other than that I'm too paranoid about something happening to my baby so no one else touches it. Plus, if I can do it myself why pay someone else for labor?

But I would like to thank Jim Hardman for paint and extra body parts. :)

My friends are my friends so yall know who I voted for.

Remember one thing too.....some shops have a ton of repeat business AND out of town business too. The only reason I'm saying that is that not all shop customers frequent here. Not everyone knows about IA.

To really get a feel for a shop can and can't do, you simply have to look at their accomplishments and the accomplishments of their customers/installs.

EXACTLY

this isnt a "why would you got to X shop cause i heard they suck"

this is WHAT SHOP DO YOU USE. If people are using Topspeed, Batlground, Mainstream, Mahdavi ,ISP, etc, its cause they feel comfortable with them. and because they like what they do, or there past accomplishments.

This thread wasnt "which shop should i go to?"

If you dont Like TOPSPEED, Batlground, Mainstream, Mahdavi, Knowledge, ISP etc, who fucking cares. thats not what this thread is about

Balanced - Jason is pretty cool though they didnt warranty some defective work on my ride, I haven't been back since.. Ed is the man though on that dyno, he knew how to tune a Focus long before there were solutions like Pectel and Superchips :goodjob:

Knowledge - Melvin is THE man. Knowledge is a top notch shop, I have had plenty of work done there and the Bully Clutch they recommended after I fried 2 Stg 3 ClutchMasters last summer is still in the car today :D They are hella far though. I do most of my own work on my car, but when I do have to take it somewhere, here's my list:

Porterfield Tire, Athens: An old family friend is the manager, and he always hooks me up on tires, balancing, oil changes when I'm feeling lazy, etc. Nice people, nice shop, and knowledgeable staff.

Magic Mufflers, off Jimmy Carter: When it comes to visible aspects of my car, I'm EXTREMELY picky, and the guys at Magic Muffler always do a great job. I got duals done on my old del Sol (yeah yeah I know), and they did a GREAT job. Perfectly level and perfectly symmetrical. Sounded mean and gave me the desired gains. They're really good guys and if something goes wrong, they don't hesitate to fix it, and don't bullshit you around about it.

AutoLabz, Birmingham, AL: Yeah yeah, out of state, but a friend is a co-owner and so I get ridiculous deals and whatnot. I think Autolabz is to Alabama what Batlground is to this state.. an up and coming shop that is producing some amazing cars. The whole staff is very knowledgeable, their prices are competitive, and the work is top notch.

336 Kustmz, High Point, NC: Only because my old car was sponsored by them. Honestly, I don't even know if they're still in business. Chris, the shop owner, cut me a great deal on farbon ciber goodies for my sol, and he's a really good guy to work with. I haven't been up there in a long time (my old showcar that was sponsored was totalled in Sept. '04), but they always had some top notch rides in there being worked on.

Those are really the only four shops I bring my car to. Other than that, I do it my damn self.

well that is always true to a point... building fast cars and producing more than 1 are two different things... Batlground /// AAP have put out more supras than any other shops here. So ya you can take your car to Goodyear, but if you can take your car to a Real Shop for the same $$$ why not?

*I"m not bashing any shop i drive a VW i have 2 shops to choose from who are known w/ VW/Audi, if i had a Supra i would pick from the two i listed, if i had an AWD well the options are quite open now adays.
