Just out of curiousity, which honda SOHC engine responds best to low levels of boost? 8-9psi? With out any building what so ever, on a stock motor with an alluminum head gasket.

This would have to be the Y8.

how does it handle it? Is it worth it, and would it be reliable enough for a DD?

How would the gas millage suffer as a result?

What about a Z6 block with a Y8 Head?

really I am just trying to see if the civic has DD potential and still hold its wieght agianst some of the more meaty four bangers.

Not Y8 but a full D16Z6 all the way!!! Just stay under 250whp for a RELIABLE DD D-series. Trust me I know! I made [email protected] and 315whp@18psi on a STOCK cam on my FULLY built D16Z6 before she went boom:goodjob:

Beat a 450whp GT mustang(on W.G;14.75psi) a new Lotus Elise on W.G(by 4 car lengths!!!!! in third gear alone) a 2007 600rr on 18psi, a 2007 M3(modded) on W.G by 3 lengths and a Porsche Carrera on W.G by 5 lengths but it wasn't a turbo carrera.

This was done in my 92 Vx hatch and for now going Ls/Vtec turbo and then FULLY built K20a2 turbo!!!

if you're wanting to stick with a d-series you already have then any would be fine for 8-9psi on most turbos. the z6 with a y8 intake manifold would be better if that's what you have.

i think the y8 would be the best choice.

Its interesting how everyone thinks the Accord is a piece of crap but then it is the best motor option to boost...

well they said SOHC's only lol, if they said any motor most would probably say h22 or h23

H series on stock blocks suck for boost. 5psi on stock block at best because of the FRM sleevs. thats good for about 5psi MAYBE

10-07-2007, 02:29 PM
F series > all. My buddies boosted SOHC F22 was good for 10psi DAILY, about 220hp and 290tq on a good tune :goodjob: Plus gas mileage didnt suffer much unless he was in boost all the time

10-07-2007, 03:08 PM
D series and they are really cheap to pick up if you blow it

§treet_§peed
10-07-2007, 03:09 PM
actally y8 blows or the head anyways from what i have heard. get a d16y7 block and put a z6 or zc head on it then boost

Nay not even the H22 or H23 makes great power with just a slap on turbo kit.

Best motor, stock would be the F series.

But then if its any motor, 2JZ.

the D16Z6 or the JDM D15B are the BEST to boost...the Y8 isn't that good to boost because of the oil pump...

D15b... Im on my third, Ive blown two of them up. At 10 PSI. Im currently. Building a D16a6 Block with a Z6 Head. Ihave heard that the A6 bottom ends are stronger. We will see.:D I have heard alot of good things on the A6. Z6 are good but. Im going to try somethin diff.

dohc???

if so, you cant swap intake manifolds on dohc zcs like that

well, you accord owners know im pro F-series for boost. :D

Can any body link me to a how to write up on installing a turbo kit on a Y8, and maybe some tips on what would be the best cost effective items to use in a build.

Cause I have a y8 but it needs a rebuild anyway, so I figure I might as well rebuild it for turbo.

there is a dual cam zc, and a single cam zc.

z6 ftw. imo.

f22 may be good, but in a very heavy car, it will be pwnt by a turbo d in a hatch. stock vs stock.

better check that. 5th gen body doesnt weigh as much as you think. Power and torque that a turbo on this block puts out defninitly helps the power/weight ratio. curb weight on this thing is 2800 and change w/ a driver. and i plan on stripping the interior and replacing the fronts with some brides or recaros. The hatch may be about 2000. NE ways lemme finish my setup and you find someone i can run. boosted F series accords are ALOT faster than you think

when you say stock turbo, you mean stock internals correct?

Halfwit

when you say stock turbo, you mean stock internals correct?
yes. what i RLY meant was COMPLETELY STOCK. no upgraded injectors pump, intake manifold.

taht is what i will be.

stock injectors/ pump.
only a small turbo, 7 psi, no intercooler.

but im pretty sure that is not how u will be so what i think the paramiters should be is

upgraded fp, and injectors ok.

but nothing crazy like fuel rail, fpr, intake manny, tb upgrade,. those things add up when put together.

.blank cd
10-12-2007, 12:12 PM
I already got a bored out TB and a spacer. the kit im getting has a FPR and bigger injectors. but no pump. but i gotta have an intercooler

Halfwit
10-12-2007, 12:17 PM
deal. i may go ahead and do injectors, and an intercooler also. level it out a bit.

my statement was common sense. People call the car crap because we all feel the CAR is crap. If people felt the motor was crap they would say that the f-series motor was crap. duh

And he is 400lbs heavier than me! Trust me the hatch is where it's at. Now James don't make me get another hatch and do another D16Z6 build just to prove you wrong:taun:
