depends on what you want, something that you can put a little money into and have a quick car, or something that you can do simple bolt-ons and have a tire roaster.

also, whats the budget?

depends on where ya wanna go with it...

Honda Civic (EF, EG)
Acura Integra (DA, DC)
Nissan 240 (s13)
Nissan SE-R (B13 or B14)
Miata (FIRSTGEN)

all these cars are easily affordable and easily modified and good Starter cars

i say sohc civic really doesnt matter eg ef ek just that its sohc motor is small enough for you to work on by yourself. also if you mess up something there are plenty of ppl on here either giving them away or selling them dirt cheap. It will also build up your confidence to get your hands dirty with a motor when you step up to the sti,evo big 240 swap stage in tuning!

lol you put a 240 in the same category as a sti or an evo.

I would say any of those cars in that list, just find something thats not going to break down on you all the time. My first "tuner" car was a civic si.

but my first car was a jeep cherokee.

In addition to what everyone else has said, also look into early 90s/late 80s 5.0 Mustangs. If you're looking for cheap power, they're the ticket.

Get you a Cavalier 4 door, you'll live longer. Fast cars for youngsters and first time drivers only make them stupid.

lol i said big 240 swap such as a 2jz or rb26 i would think its safe to say they are in the same class as far as where you can take them fairly cheaply cheap being the funny word i for one am not there yet ill stick with my dc2

:goodjob:

Get a 88-91 CIVIC SI or CRX

you can pick up a clean good condition decent mileage for $1000-2000

occasionally you can get one with a b16 for $3000ish

They arent fast, but they are fun. An they are cheap maintanence and for a first car, this is a HUGE factor. and cheap on insurance

mods are EVERYWHERE from simple bolt ons to turbo kits.

That might not be the cool answer but too much car+too little seat time+immaturity= a dead dumbass still wet behind the ears. I will say start out with a manual shift. You get a better feel for the car that way. Plus, They are cheaper to fix and you wont be limited to only driving a/t.

But seriously my first "tuner" car was a 94 ****subitchi Eclipse GS. Had exhaust, wheels, system. I thought I was the ****, until i hit two trees at 85mph. Seriously just get a older civic. I have a 89 Honda Civic hatchback Si, witha ZC swap, lowered on 2000 si's. So easy to find parts for, and most of the stuff is cheap.

Or Like someone else said, look for a fox body mustang....I have had 2.

problem with DSMs is that they are like a disease. They infect you and then never leave.

plus most turbo ones have been ragged on and are money pits.

but usually you become a glutton for punishment and no matter how much that car mistreats you, you keep coming back for more.

ive seen a few dsms around. none taken well care of but they look decent

Roadster

$0.02

Volvo 740 Turbo.

Get one with a 5spd and put some stiffer springs on it. Relatively quick, fun to mess around with, simple to work on, incredibly reliable, cheap to insure and maintain, and most importantly, ridiculously cheap to buy into. You can find one in good shape for $1500.

And you have a much better chance of surviving an accident (caused by you or someone else) in a Volvo than you do in a Civic.

And I just think they look cool when you do them right:

EF FTMFW!!!!!

PLENTY of upgrades available yet still cheap and reliable. CRX's are fun as ****, hell mine is bone stock except for my exhaust.....and intake but its pretty quick(for a car with 110 hp that is) and handles like its on a rail.

thats my :2cents:

but in that regard, you WILL NOT be affiliated w/ the EF squad.... no ricers allowed lolz

I'm in the process of getting my 1st car.

240 with 2-2.5K
I might spend $700 on the car, this is if I buy it, then buy a CA (900) or SR (1400) then do the motor swap with a bunch of my friends at an air port.

So in all 2100 at most because the labor is free :D

Remember this is a maybe
But I'm for sure getting a 240
