just curious, i was talking with someone the other day, and they tried telling me that its possible to build a sr20(240 style) around 600rwhp at max boost lvl and still be reliable even with a fully built sr20 tranny. All the research i have ever done says that anything over 500rwhp is VERY VERY unreliable and might only get a few passes out of it! THis argument started when i said for the money its smarter to just put a 2jz motor into a 240, and be very very very reliable at 600rwhp! becuase i now that it would take 15-20k to build a very strong and reliable motor, which would also be around the same for a 2jz swap.

Just seeing what others think, and if my thoughts on the sr20 are incorrect!?!?!?!?! :dunno:

thats very untrue. theres many setups with 550-600whp on stock internals. i think the record was 630 on stock block and internals...

500 should be reliable , and reliability always depends on how it is built/tuned/quality of parts...

A few passes? If everyone would quit thinking in a straight line we might get somewhere

Lets think about this, if you want a reliable 600hp do you start with a 200hp 2.0 liter or a 320hp 3.0 liter? ;)

of course if you want all horsepower, go with the 2jz...

i still dont see why people always compare inline 6 twin turbo to inline 4 single turbo...and about 4k in difference of price.

sr holds its own even against that...

and wtf is "max boost lvl"

but seriously though , reliability claims can not be held against the engine. its all about the tune and the build.

max boost level? 600+hp can be very reliable, or can be a time bomb, depends on who built it, and the tune. This is true for for any car/engine combination, the 2jz could be built to 400hp and explode its first drive if someone f-cks up the build/tune.

I can tell you first hand since I have built a 450whp and a 850whp 2jz240 that if 600whp with reliability is the goal, the 2jz wins hands down. Without going into a 5 page report on the subject at hand think of it this way. Which would last longer, A fully built 2jz making 1200whp that is acually driven or a stock bottom 2jz that is making 400whp.

Now do the dame with the with the sr. YOu want a 200whp motor to make 3 times its original safely and more reliable than the 2jz that only wants to double its hp with a block that can triple it without modification:thinking: OK I am done

All things equal, oem bottom end from a 2jz plus just a single and fuel will last longer than a fully built everthing modded sr motor and tranny. I loved my sr but there is 200 2jz's making 600ish whp to every 1 600whp sr. Why is that?

I wasnt comparing the two, or putting them on equal levels. just answering his question that you could have a reliable hi-hp sr

more 600+2jz because its easier, a single and fuel like you said would do it. takes a lot more for a sr, and a lot of people dont want to do that

Im very curious as to whether people have been able to make big power with the sr stroker kits. I know there is BC kit out and I think a tomei kit. The BC is like 2.31 stroker and the tomei kit is like a 2.2. When I graduate from college Ive been thinking of treating myself to a decent car or having a stroker motor sr just because with the right exhaust that thing has to sound flat out nasty. A little off topic but I just put the buddy club spec 2 exhaust which is basically a straight pipe on my 280whp sr and it sounds sick!

lol hey i do what i am best at! lol when you going to be back on there anyways! :goodjob:

also thanks....alot of people put up the same argument i did. I figured it was smarter that spending 15k on a 600rwhp sr, like veryone said prefect tune, build and everything, was jsut smarter and WAY more realiable to put that into a 2jz and not have to worry about it fucking up or almost going all the time! :goodjob:

rb26 not unrealistic but not practical for what he is trying to do. he will come out cheaper wit a 2jz.

Tell your bud to go 2j. he will be very happy. i have a built SR and for the money if i had to do it over, 2jz ftw. I am like Jeremy, i love my SR but in reality the 2J is just a better buy hands down. wish i had known
