this is randomguy

so i got a laptop... wireless isn't hooked up at my house (Bc the fuckin linksys shit is too complicated and gay and shti right)

so yeah I had to do something on the laptop.. .

i bring the laptop to my room, (its off)

I pop in the network cable, and turn it on (didn't think much of it, order doesnt really matter, huh?)

So as its booting up shit is wierder than usual... (some wierd mac address shit comes up during POST , while its booting up) and then it says something about DHCP and boot client and all this shit...so i'm assuming its network booting... (i bought it used, its probably an office PC)

so I unhook the cable, try again.... it says "no operating system found"

i'm like FUCK

so i go into the BIOS change the boot order of everything to hard drive first to no avail... no OS found

I could just reinstall windows but theres some really important progs installed that I can't reinstall til tomorrow... (and i got something due tomorrow) AutoCAD and Revit. ... etc

so basically anyone know of a way where I can boot windows.... shit is pissing me off

any ideas, like absolutely anything lol.

you're gonna have to have it boot windows off the CD and reinstall it. mine does it too, but i always hit ESC when it comes up. i really don't know how to turn it off and don't really need to.

for fixing, reinstall and have it boot off harddrive.
for permanently not having that come up, im as confuzzled as you. i'll try to find something.

they're saying you can turn it off in bios, yea what i did was moved it to the PXE to the last boot slot and it didn't run anymore on startup. pretty much it tried to overwrite your windows which pwnted your computer.

if anything at least this'll help OTHER People who have the misconception. i have XP pro / Vista if you need it =P

I mean I can reinstall windows, i already turned off the network boot in the BIOS, but I was wondering if anyone knew a way to salvage windows... or at least salvage/dupe the registry keys for the programs installed (revit/ autocad) which I need.

cant find a decent working torrent for revit

but yeah that said if the programs are still in tact

damn dude i have never heard of that shit goin down. Data recovery is a bitch i used to do it ages ago if i can find my books on what i used to do it i can try to help. for the most part thought something fugly went down in the software cuz that shit shouldnt happen from just uploading a cable. Virus maybe? I think you can still run scandisk or something like that without an OS but I cant rememebr how cuz its been ages since i had to. It just sounds like you may need to reinstall windows and bite the bullet i dunno wait on vista its mad slow just stick with xp pro til u upgrade, less hardware issues anyway..
