I ask this question to a bunch of my friends and it always seems to bring up an interesting conversation.

Ok.

POUND for POUND who is the tougher animal, Feline species or Canine Species?

redrumracer

canine cuz the pussies tend to run away(except for the really big ones)

I personally think pound for pound the feline is the tougher animal.

If a 60lb cat went toe to toe with a 60lb dog that dog would get smothered.

this is your "60" lbs cat

redrumracer

i still say the dogs because the cat would just run unless your considering this kind of cat

My boy has a 9month old pit, and he got pretty torn up by a decently sized house cat.

no real damage but lips, eyes, pretty much the whole face got torn up

lions, panthers, cougars, leopards, tigers, and jaguars... vs what, wolves? cats would beat some ass if you had the right kind

My cat is pretty mean......I watched him fuck up a Chow/Rotweiler mix a few years back. Cut the dogs lips, nose, and ear. It was funny to watch the cat just cling on his head and go to town.......

those would be the big ones im talking about, but i think wolves would hang with a couple of them.

I think a bob cat would take a pit bull out.

Its that agility that gives the cat the advantage.

cat, a dog has teeth and thats about it.
Cats have claws, agility, teeth, and depending on species possible advantage in speed.
Lets not take into consideration cats are more hunters where dogs are scavengers.

Im a dog person but unfortunately in a fight a cat would win

Because cats big enough to fight would slaughter the owner.

a) dogs are cheaper
b) there is cat fighting, but it's lions vs cheetahs vs panthers, etc
c) fighting cats are way more expensive then fighting dogs. :goodjob:

I'm a dog lover but cats would win in a one on one battle. Pack Hunting I'll take dogs.

Dog's relatives: Dog, Wolves, Jackals, Foxes, & Dholes.

Keep JJ Alfago and his mother away from both.
I heard pets live longer in the pound than @ their house.

Aren't Bears somehow liked to the K9 family? If so, throw in a Kodiak and the tables may be a little more even. Other than that, I may have to give it up to the big cats.

one of the animal shows did a "cougar vs a wolf"... the cougar tore the shit out of the wolf... mainly due to the claws... even though the dog would most likely pin the cat.. the cat uses it's claws especially rear paws... to basically gut the dog...

Pound for pound a cat would tear a dog up. Sure you can put a 70-100 lb dog up against a 15 lb cat and the dog would win. Pound for pound it is no contest. Period.

The fossil record indicates that bears evolved from "dog-like" animals, thus the Family most closely related to Ursidae would be Canidae (the dogs)

Source: http://www.americanbear.org/Evolution%20-%20Taxonomy.htm

So who's willing to put bears in a fight with a cat?

Bears have actually strayed too far in their evolutionary path to still be considered close relatives of dogs.

There is only one 'bear' left that is very closely related to dogs because of that classification its not even a really a bear scientifically. That being the Panda.
