View Full Version : Anyone wanna go drag racing?

bigdare23
09-22-2007, 09:33 PM
Import Showdown is coming up Sunday. So do anyone in the squad wanna go? As of now it's just Kevin, me (if my car gets fixed this week), 89_lude, and CRXguy. It would be fun just to have a few rivalry races and get a baseline for your car. Also, it motivates the hell out of you if you "think" you can drive (aint that right Jeff :lmfao: ) I don't wanna here I don't wanna go because I have a stock d15 in my car. That's BS, because it doesn't matter what motor you have to have fun. Plus, when we have meets, ya'll d-series drivers be flying down the highway after I tell everyone to take it easy. :lmfao:

So guys if you're free on Sunday and wanna make a 1.5hr roadtrip with your boy BigDare LMK. If you're going to make excuses don't bother posting. (Watch this thread stay empty because of that comment :lmfao: )

Why would I need a pinto? I already own a Darryl...

I didn't dyno cuz it's just a stock 18a1. Didn't really have much to show for. The drag is a money issue...how much is it?

Jay12know

Sooooooooooo

the 1st dyno meet (the one you didnt show up to chump), had about 12 cars dyno. Add all the results, shit we barely had a 1000hp total LOL. It was fun just to get a base line for your car.

Look at me, I gained 57hp in about 6months :ninja: , I wouldnt had known that without a baseline.

Next time I'm on the dyno, I'm going to be even greater :ninja: :ninja: :ninja: :ninja: :ninja:

Well...I'll put it this way. It's up in the air what's going to happen when I get this new shell. Because...I planned to pull apart the current hatch, but I really hate to see it go. I've got two b18's (one installed) two d15's (one running WELL) plus another d15 needing rebuild from this hatch. I've got an extra passenger fender, and an extra pair of doors. I want a car for race, and a car to drive daily. So right now, I'm looking at all the different ways I could build my shit. We'll hit the dyno then, for sure. But the problem is...I should be leaving for the military before too long (soon as I can get my record approved) and then I'll have to figure out what I'm doing with the two cars...and all the extra parts...

Keep the old hatch, use it as a "race" car, and then fix up this new one u got and drop the other LS in it and use it as ur DD.

Well, I'm not in debate...the b18 I've got in right now could use a rebuild cuz it burns a little bit of oil. The other b18, I'm not positive of its condition, so I'd like to go ahead and just assume and be safe and do a rebuild on it. The question is that I've got a great condition d15...and I wouldn't mind putting it in one of them, but then I wonder which one. Cuz the "race" car...different engines will put me in different classes. The DD, I wouldn't mind having the powerful b18, but I halfway miss the gas mileage of the d15.

Talked to some people tonight. Ya'll make sure to camp out close to me throughout sunday. I'm going down with my car on a trailer (MIGHT have room for someone else on the trailer) and I'll be departing woodstock around 630-7am. I'll be down there for a day. The truck trailering my car down has xbox360, audio, and we'll ahve a grill and some food.

So...ya'll come on out! This is gonna be a damn good time. Besides...I'll be winning a little pocket change off Dare. ;) I mean...unless he gets skird...

well, I've got two options...a game plan, mind you. You know how military works...there's a backup plan...always.

Plan A, trace wires and see what I missed. If I can't find it in about 2-3 hours time tomorrow, I'm ripping the wires out and running a manual switch inside the cabin that will run directly to the fan. RadioShack for the win..

ah yes, i troubleshoot enough wires at work... the thought of doing it on a car irritates me. lol

I too have to run a switch for the fan tomm... as well as a timing belt replacement.... (found a 1/8" tear in mine right before i put it in the paint shop)

...SO i will not be running tomm most likely. Oh well.
Good luck with your wiring :D

Focus on that timing belt, first. That's gonna take some time. I'm waiting for a ride to get to radioshack, LoL.

What happened with your fan? I hope I can get in there when I'm doing a part-out restoration on this damn thing and get everything cleared up. Til then...guess I'll deal...

Dare got scared, basically. Saw 89Lude down there, though. Cool guy.

So...as it stands...I won the bet by default. Next time, Dare...we'll have a REAL match...

I realized while down there that uh...sound deadening material REALLY deadens sound. With it out and removed and stuff...my engine sounds SO much louder in the cabin. Thank god this is being a race-only vehicle...

Ok, time for numbers!

I mostly want to see your 60ft, e/t and trap speed.

EvasiveEF9

LoLoL

Well, I don't ahve the slips in front of me, but I'll give you what I can for now...

91 Civic hatch (mostly gutted) B18A1 OBD1 on LS Trans and about 1/2tank gas, all stock...

Started out with a 17.5 due to something with the PR4 ecu that this motor just DOES NOT like... Runs great until you hit the top of 2nd gear (but only sometimes) and then it just chokes out. I dont' know...

Switched ECU's and stuck between 15.5 and 15.2 for the other 2-4 passes. Was trying different little things like tire pressure, wet/dry, (thanks for the tip, dare!) burnout vs. no burnout, hard vs. soft launch, getting more familiar with redlines, and changing fuel pressure here and there.

The last pass I brought a passenger, but tried some different things that SHOULD have put me in the really low 15's. Without the passenger, probably would have hit 14's. Why can I not vouch for it? For whatever reason...that time ticket printed everything but my 1/4 time and speed. Not sure why...

Best was just over 15.2 @ about 92mph (I think?)

I'll get more into detail later...

jfrolang
09-30-2007, 07:46 PM
What was your 60 ft on that best run?

The 15.2 would be about normal for an LS in an EF. When me and darryl went to silver dollar back in March, I was lined up against an EF hatch with a B18A on one run. He ran 15.0 @ 89 with a great launch.

I wanted to go today, but I had to work. last time out I managed a trap speed of 95.8 mph, which should have put me deep in the 14s, but I could never get the launch right. With lighter wheels and an empty trunk this time, I know I'd improve. Oh well..

EvasiveEF9
09-30-2007, 07:52 PM
Gimmee time, I'll improve. Just gotta get the money to start the project.

I'd love to see your car on the track. We need to just do a track day...fo-rizzle (dare, is that right? Fo...rizzle?)

I just realized something, though, that's REALLY gonna suck. I ****ing HATE the cold. I pulled alot of things out of my car for this weekend (since it'll be going all-race) including the heater. Well...I'm driving the car until the other hatch is done. This is gonna be a ****ty winter...

With tuning you'll be much faster. I know of EFs running less boost on a B16 that are in the 12s. :goodjob:

It was good seeing you out there 89_Lude, I have the ticket where you ran the 13.9 at 100 MPH cause you were racing me in the new Civic Si :).

I ran quite a few times Sat with a best of 14.4 at 99 MPH on my street tires, came into some problems after this last run when I would put it into gear, release the clutch & it wouldn't engage at all so a track personel tows me (w/ tow strap) about 1/2 mile down the road to my hotel where it sat for the night. Then my friend came down early and helped me tow it back to the track (with Type-R + tow strap) and good thing I brought a spare axle because we swapped it out & it worked again! The teeth on the very end of the axle that goes into the tranny was rounded out so it wasn't connecting w/ the shaft inside the diff so I didn't want to risk breaking anything else & sat out for today :( (looks like Panda can't handle 2 days of racing, cause last time I broke my PP on Sat & couldn't compete on Sun)

End of story ..

Dare was askin' if I'd seen you out there! I didn't see you all day until my car was on the trailer, and we were rolling out. I saw you exiting the track about 4pm (maybe a little before) on sunday.

I would have thought a slipping clutch would cause your lower-end to slip...?

jfrolang
10-01-2007, 10:43 AM
I would have thought a slipping clutch would cause your lower-end to slip...?A clutch will only hold a given amount of torque, and the torque of the engine when the boost comes on is probably too much for the clutch to hold.

I've heard alot of good about Competition Clutches and the manager pushes for Zoom Clutches. Haven't tried either. Had no need...I'm stock. So I went with an autozone duralast special...

JFRO - Yeah...definitly makes sense. I guess I blame the clutch for my driving skills, then. When I needed a clutch, I was on my D15B2...so the ONLY way to actually accelerate was to redline each gear, and then drop the clutch for the next...

You need to get together in a race with ol' buddy Randy down here. His STI is stock as well and he runs the occasional 12.9... which is out of control.
