Really depends on the direction the board is headed in, some sponsors do not want to be affiliated with indecency. Profanity isn't a big deal to me but I wont lie if I was a sponsor I would be concerned about certain aspects of the board. If you've been here for a while its easy to overlook certain things (posts of girls eating shit, flaming, racist comments) but for new members and/or potential sponsors you have to imagine how things are perceived.

At the end of the day I know the board isn't here to make you rich but I know there are expenses associated with keeping it going on a day to day basis, and I can only imagine with more members come higher expenses.

After all that.. It doesnt bother me either way.

I actually think this is a pretty good idea in moderation. However, censoring every word that could possibly be perceived as a cuss, I think that's a touch excessive. I know that in reality no cuss word is worse than another, but there's a stigma attached to some of the words that makes people seem to think that they're worse than other. I say, if they wouldn't have played it on the radio 5 years ago [sorry, but radio edits these days are ridiculous] then it shouldn't be visible here. Also, in response to shagwagen's post about enacting punishments against 'bypassing' the censor by using fvck instead of fuck, I personally find that a touch excessive. If you want to censor the actual word, then fine, but fvck, no matter what it LOOKS like, is simply not a word.

Cliffs: the 'baddest of the bad', i.e. shit, fuck, cunt, etc. I think it would be a great benefit to the reputation of the forum to block, however, there's an extremely fine line between cleaning up your image and stifling your members.

This is an adult site and people should expect to see adult content. As long as new members join at the same rate and previous members stay on here, each site sponsor will have the same attn regardless of censorship. If anything the site sponsors should find the RLD more offensive than profanity. I just like the idea of being able to say ANYTHING, unlike in most other forums. If it comes down to loosing a sponsor then it's best to censor profanity, otherwise I vote no.

Answer it's not, and what Julio is talking about is bigger, better sponsors not wanting to do business with IA because of this. As a previous sponsor, the language and boards like "red light" are a bit scary..but that's what the "scene" is about. I made the decision that if we were going to sponsor the site, we would support the scene.

It comes down to the people. If you are sponsoring a site it's because you want your name or company associated with the target audience. As a sponsor it isn't smart to say "their good enough to buy my product" on one hand and on the other say "that's not the type of people we want our name associated with."

In reality, this site has a great target audience for products and vendors truly associated with the "scene"...

In my mind, your either in or out. You choose. The fact of the matter is, everyone knows that this site wasn't designed to make money, it wasn't the original thought. Chances are, that's what made it so popular. If people (members) begin to feel that they are just another group involved in a marketing study they will probably go elsewhere and without them, the members, what does sponsorship really matter?

Numbers wise, when I check my webstats (which is often) Import Atlanta is always at the top as far as where our hits are coming from. We average 300k unique visitors a month with several thousand hits coming from Import Atlanta per month. We even have crap talking that constantly goes on about us and as far as I'm concerned, Import Atlanta has still played a huge part in getting the good word out about our shop. To me Import Atlanta has an extremely far reach. There are tons of members and word spreads from here to people that aren't members of the site. It's an information source for whats going on in this demographic. Cussing doesn't change that. I have always been one for freedom of speech. I think IA represents the community just the way it is. It's very honest. People on IA don't hold back so you aren't getting some canned, politically correct mumbo jumbo. You are getting raw, uncut views. I like it. That's just me as a person though. I appreciate the uncut version of everything.

No matter what, Import Atlanta has been an absolute asset to our business and I wouldn't change much.

I've said it before on here. Implement some sort of "Supporting Member" status where you pay a minimal monthly fee for added privileges such as larger sig, more PM space, hell even make reps count for more. Try that and see how much money you make from members willing to pay $1.50 a month to keep IA how they want it compared to selling out for some sponsor.

We did the same system on WRXatlanta and it works very well. We only have a handful of sponsors so it made a very large difference, on here maybe not so much but any money is still money in your pocket.
