What's up? I am looking into a 95 Eclipse GSX. I know it is an AWD car and was wondering if AWD cars drift, do they drift well, does it need more power just some information on them. I am not planning to take the car out and race with it. Well, not right now. Just looking to have some fun, and I know the AWD will provide plenty of handling. Just have a little interest in drifting and wanted to know if AWD are able, and what their capacity for it.
I am not looking for long lectures or rants on why RWD or FWD is better or worse, just what you have heard or have experience with AWD Drifting

Its stupid. AWD is great for grip, if you want to drift just get a RWD car.

lets just say most AWD drift cars? Yeah, they have the front axles disconnected

They have viscous couple eliminators. Not as easy as disconnecting the front axles.
They also have shitheads for owners because drifting is queer.

awd doesn't automatically mean good handling

No, they aren't very good for drifting unless you have a very good suspension setup or have converted it to RWD. I believe that they sell kits now to convert some AWD cars to just use the rear without worry of damaging the car.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I don't have much experience with AWD or RWD cars. I have driven a corolla, crv, tachoma, and a motorcycle. I am not planning on spending a lot of money right now. Honestly I am looking between a 95 Eclipse GSX and a 87 Toyota Supra(non-turbo). I am interested in taking it to the track and trying out different things, but that would be down the road. Right now I just want a car that would be good to drive and just have fun without serious modifications.

AWD is good for getting sideways but not for drifting. My brother can get extremely sideways in his EVO but the instant he hits the gas, the car grips.

You can get very sideways with AWD.

Be sure to see starting at 3:00 on the Google Video link. Tiff teaches you how to "4x4 powerslide".

AWD has the turning radius of a full size long bed F150. minute manuevers are nearly impossible without an acre of space.
