Broken Lug!!

my driver side rear wheel tire has a broken lug, what all do i need to do to fix this, its broke off flush with the wheel, i'd like to fix all this on my own so a parts list or inctructions or really any kind of help would be appreciated. thanks

you just need to go to an auto parts store, buy a new one. You have to remove wheel, caliper, rotor, bang out old lug and put a new one in... when you put new one in make sure its in snug, use washers and then tighten and loosen a lug nut on it a few times to make sure its snug and safe before finally fitting everything back together

civics have a little slot in the hub that allows one to remove the broken stud without destroying the wheel bearing. Whereas integras do not have this. the bearing is destroyed in the process of removal.

you have to destroy the wheel bearing? that's really screwed up heh

It all depends on the car, if you want to do work yourself then spend the money on a repair manual.


you have to destroy the wheel bearing? that's really screwed up hehno, when you pull a wheel bearing apart you aren't supposed to reuse it...there is no telling when it will go out after that point. May be within a few days or weeks or could possibly be months or longer if you're extremely lucky. Since you have it all apart might as well spend the $40-50+ on a new bearing instead of trying to press the old one in :2cents:

NO NO NO...When you take a wheel bearing apart, clean it an inspect it for wear, if its good just clean it an re-pack with bearing high temp grease an you be fine!

if i'm not mistaken the wheel bearings in question are sealed/pressed type bearings.

they are but when you take the hub off, then you see the ballbearings, an grease exposed, then you want to clean excess dirt, an grease an re gease then put back on

So heres a redneck trick for ya. Instead of taking apart the hub and rotor, grind off part of the new lug head and you can slip it in on the back side with a little elbow grease. It works fine, and dont give me crap about un safe. It works. Ive tried it and I Impacted the **** outta it to to test it.:D

Yes you can do that, But not on a civic's front hubs !

^^ make sure you use an anti-seize.. but buy new ones!

Yes you can do that, But not on a civic's front hubs !

You can change a civic's front studs without taking the hub off. I do it all the time.

damn this was posted almost a month ago...did you do it yourself or take it to a shop?
i waited til i changed my drum shoes to change the stud.
so just so the facts are straight... i took off the drum banged out the old one, put in the new one tightened it on with the nut. all is gravy. oh and just for everybodys info, as long as the bearings are all good and not odviously ****ed up you just clean off the dirt, repack with high temp grease and put your sh*t back together. riding good now, just need some wheels and tires, oh yea and a camber kit*ebay time*
