if you're shifting into gear and your revs go UP and then back to normal then your clutch is slipping justin.

basically your clutch isn't catching so your revs are jumping and then they go back to normal once it catches..

wrong, if your clutch is slipping it will catch, it just takes a minute, if you're clutch is FUCKED then it'll die out on you, this means your cl u tch is on the verge of going bad, thats the only thing it could be, your revs are jumping up then going back to normal, ONCE your clutch is catching.. it's not just your motor revving up for no reason.

I agree.... fuel or fire.

Can you log the runs?
"Sounds" like a coil/spark issue to me. What kind of spark management is it? Does one coil fire all cylinders, or does it have individual coils for each hole?

Where's the fuel cut-off/ limiter set at(rpm)?

Run a cheap mechanical FP guage off your rail to the cowl, and see what it looks like at whatever rpm it's dieing at.

You hearing any audible detenation at that point? If your FP was dropping bad enough to kill power like that, I would think you'd hear some knock before it nosed over(lean as piss).

With EFI, it would be hard for a fuel issue to kill all the cylinders the way it's doing unless it was a pcm issue.

You really need to log a pass to be sure which, but I still say spark. I've seen coils that run/fire perfectly fine in the midrange and stutter up high.

Good luck-

SicStang03
09-10-2007, 05:10 PM
Rhe plugs are TR6's and I don't have anything to log it with.. I am going to get my tuner to take it out and see if he can mess with it..

I believe there is a coil for every plug and the limiter is just above 7 I think

i didnt even think about slip but you need a new belt the stock one wont work unless you get 3 more idlers.

with 1 100mm idler you need one of these sizes
2.76...............74.5"..................K080745................4080745 (with 100mm Idler)

with 4 idlers you need these sizes or a stock belt
2.76..............75.1".................K080751...............4080750 (with 100mm Idler) (Stock Belt)

its over a half inch difference which isnt a ton but at 6k rpms it would make a difference

it does sound like you're loosing boost....i've never owned a supercharged car, but the belt slipping theory makes sense to me. closest thing to that i've seen on a turbo car is the snorkel that connects the air filter to the turbo's compressor implodes/sucks itself together therefore the turbo can't suck in any more air and the car falls on it's face. if the engine quits all together then it's prolly got too much timing and it's detonating...i'm not a domestic guru however, gl man

03 cobra's can only take 23* of timing max, so they will only make x amount of power period. There is no trick to making power with them, there is however a point at which they will pop if the timing isn't retarded enough based on inlet temps.

Justin,
Its a fuel spike or a TQ spark retard. Either is an easy fix so don't sweat it.
My guess is its a tune issuse that needs to be tuned out or its a bad FRPS.

We can tell if its belt slip on the dyno,if it is then get the idlers, but lets make sure its not something else first.

03-04 cobra's can only take so much spark to make power safely. You will only gain minimum power with these after 21*. From 21-23* is only about 5-8rwhp.

We can tell if its belt slip on the dyno,if it is then get the idlers, but lets make sure its not something else first.

Tim

OK.. I have been really tied up with work and school. I will be in touch with you guys soon. Also I got my hands on a ported TB and plenum and a C&L inlet... Will I need a retune?? Is it even worth the TB and Plenum install or should I wait for the blower port??

Thanks Tim:goodjob:

if you think it's belt slippage, do it again and keep your eye on the boost gauge.

lol @ kris thinking its the clutch.

I had the camera on the guages but kyle fucked that up:rolleyes:...
The rev limiter got pegged when it happened so the boost should have been up, if there was no slip, but I was more worried about RPMs....

Don't put the camera in the black mans hands

if it feels really tight i dont know what could be wrong, im sure tim will be able to tell you though, you could maybe go get a belt at autozonethen return it saying its the wrong size, not sure about their return policy though
autozone will take anything you return back. i use to work there. if he did that he would get a full refund. so its worth a try
