I would have given my sac to have played on this stage. If you have decent audio and can catch how well everything is imaged and staged correctly, wow - the energy is just amazing. I get in a major zone when I play to this track at home.

ALL MUSICIAN'S, CHECK IN>

METAL! Hard to describe exactly...lots of screaming, some singing, keys, some off-time stuff, some thrash, some breakdowns, etc. We're all over the map as far as metal is concerned. If the stuff was a little more technical, I'd call it progressive metal (we do have an 8 minute long song), but then we have straight-up grindcore stuff (like a 1 minute song).

Like I said a long time ago, I dig the freestyle loop. That shit reminded me of that "Toe Jam and Earl" riff from sega. I bought a pedal that I thought would loop, it was just for timing. I got ripped. Super nice stuff, anyhow.

^^ Grab the Boss RC-20, or the Boss RC-20XL. get one from eBay, not new... they are pretty cheap now-a-days and will be your best friend. :)

I played woodwinds in Elementary.
I started on the flute, then oboe and clarinet.

I moved to brass in 7th grade. I played, Baritone, Trombone, and tuba. I was starting to pick up french horn in high school and I quit.

I still did bass drum in marching band but never went back.

I now only do vocals.

So who's y'alls favorite bass player? Not just on talent, but on the style of music and what you like to hear. Mine would be Flea. But I know he's not the most amazing bassist ever, but he can hold his own. :)

Wow ---- too many to list. Willie Weeks, Oteil Burbridge --- I admire Wooten for such a unique style --- Jaco Pastorius for paving the way for every1. Larry Graham --- Prince is one of my favorites as well. His line on "Let's Work" is one of my favorites:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8y-IEAeVHM

Also Verdine White's line on "Shining Star" (and every other thing he played w/ Earth Wind and Fire)

Not sure how many people here listen to gospel music but my personal fav is Thaddeus Tribbett. I think he can pretty much play any genre of music. And also Darryl Freeman

BABY J
12-30-2008, 03:58 PM
I played w/ Darryl a few times at Atlanta BAss Gallery. He is fairly limited to gospel, but he is solid (obviously w/ all the people he has recorded with).

And since u mentioned gospel --- Mike Akins (The Pilgrim Jubillees bassist) is my fav quartet-style bass player. "Big Mike" (nickname) is serious. :)

YouTube- James Taylor - Steam Roller Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hsT20hO0LY)

Man ---- I won't even get into the vocal-control thing b/c this IS James Taylor - that'd be stating the obvious. But check out his fret-work....

diminished chords - implied notes - ghosting - and FLAT fives (5ths), false-modulations on the turn-arounds (starting at 3:10, popping off 3:16) and inverted chords too (he must be a piano player as well)

This mofo is the SHIT, and it's not overplayed -- it's all relevant.

GANGSTA!!!

TSiFTW
11-09-2009, 10:56 PM
Wow. Intricate rhythm guitar is what I love to do the most. Well besides projecting my smooth ass lyric tenor vocals (you know us vocalists are a little cocky sometimes) LOL. James Taylor and Dave Matthews are two of the main ones that I love studying their chords, granted sometimes it gives me a massive headache trying to figure some of them out.

Here's a bass I "found" here in Kabul, Afghanistan. It's a Warwick thumb with MEC pickups. Sounds like an angel. Lol. It wasn't being used cause someone broke the connectors to the battery and just left it there. I saw it sitting there collection dust and took it into my care. Cleaned it up a little bit, soldered a connector back on there and it works like new.
