1) YOU have 30 days to register a vehicle. Do you have a bill of sale for the vehicle? A proof of purchase? If it doesn't have the date on the tag then you can simply use the bill of sale, since it was over the 30 day limit then you as the driver AND owner should have requested a revised copy to be made. Until your car is 100% registered you ALWAYS keep a copy of the title and bill of sale on you. It only take seconds to make a photocopy.

2) Drive-out tags from licensed dealerships are now required by law to have the date 30 days after purchase clearly marked AND the VIN number of the vehicle on them. As for the strip that came off from a car was -- say you have a blown tail-light, that is illegal right? BUT you have the new taillight bulb in your glove box...does that make the tail-light now legal? :no:

3) Lets do some role playing, I'll be the cop and you're the Neon driver with an improper drive-out tag. How do I know the car is not stolen? I pull you over for an illegal drive-out tag. Do you have proof of registration? No because it's not registered yet...so me, as the officer, has to call in a 10-29 request using the VIN number to see if it's a possible 10-99. No signs of it being stolen, could it have been stolen in another county and said counties report hasn't made it through the system yet? Possibly. If it is in deed registered then the owners name WILL come back when the VIN is called in. When no name comes back then most likely at that point I'd call my chief/supervisor for assistance to the situation. If the vehicle isn't coming up properly in the system then insurance needs to be verified by someone and everything is a mess. Moves on anyways...

Now here's the fun part, I have your drivers license on the clipboard and a 10-27 request is called into dispatch using your license number. "Georgia 042860....blah blah" Dispatch responds back with your name and states if you have any warrants or not. I then request additional information regarding driving history, whether it's counted against you or not it's still on the record. Most likely this weeks tickets won't appear yet but all the other previous violations do, one after another...

We now have a car that's not in the system and a driver with a fair amount of violations on his driving record. What do you do next? If the record was clean then most likely you'd be written a warning but you're obviously a repeat offender which will always lead to more violations against you...

They're there to protect you, despite what you think, whether it's from reckless speeders or imagine if your car was stolen...any joe blow off the street could give them the same sob story as you and get away with it continuing about their day driving your car. Think about what others have to deal before judging them.

You're ass didn't do your end of what you were supposed to do to ensure you had a tag, or even any form or sort of registration. I've been pulled over twice with no tag, once was to make sure the car wasn't a stolen vehicle, the other was when I was doing 135mph in a 45 ( ticket was 69 in a 45, I paid my dues, kept my license ), and had gotten inquired about why I did not have a tag - but the car was STILL registered, and I had insurance on the car, so I was still okay with that ( I got a warning on it ). Point is, you're lazy ass fucked up, and now you gotta pay up. Maybe next time you'll be more proactive and not have so many excuses and put the blame on someone who's doing their job right :D
