I'm trying to decide what to do. I am having an opportunity to do what I've always wanted to do. Own a Porsche. Now I'm an old school fool and I love the old school Porsches. I've been eyeing a 1983 Porsche 924S for about 17 years now. Dude bought it brand new in 83 and he never drives it. I have heard the car run and even rode with him in it a few weeks ago.

Now here is the dilemma. I want to fix my CVCC also. It'll be a couple of thousand dollars cheaper to fix the CVCC, but I've always wanted a Porsche(ever since this 924 was brand new). I know not what to do. Later, QD.

thats really a tough choice, both cars look great.

but if it were me, i'd go with the car you've wanted for 17 years, even though i want to see your CVCC roll up to one of the EF meets...

turbo? We just got rid of our 924s and correct me if im wrong the 924s was only available in NA. The turbo model was the 944. I really did love the 924. It was an amazing car for what it was. And on the highway........SEX. With wheels and suspension mods it would be one hell of a BANG FOR THE BUCK, but to maintain it i found to be just too much. Timing belts every 40k, adjusting the belt like every two oil changes, $1000 clutches....and thats cheap, etc. Thats the price you pay.

I have a 1980 928 V8 5 speed sitting at my shop right now as we speak. I'm waiting for some parts to come in, but it runs. Well, I just got it back running. It's been at our shop for a while and I'm not sure if the owner wants to sell it or not. If you're really interested, PM me. This V8 sounds like a mix between a Mercedez and a and an SBC. It's pretty nice. It needs to be restored, but you'll like it.

EDIT; It's a grey market Porcshe 928 S

If you want a Porsche don't get a 924! The 924 was like a beta 944/951, the 944/951 is a better all around car. I have driven both and would never buy a 924. Save up or do what you got to do, I think you would regret buying the 924.

Hell yeah, a nice reliable newer D series Honda motor would be bad as shit in the CVCC, considering it has what, 45hp now? A more reliable, more powerful motor in a little tiny car like that would be the shit. If it was my choice I'd do the swap in the CVCC asap, considering how clean it is I'd never let that car go. after everything was good and running I'd get the Porsche.

Go 924! Up-keep isn't bad at all as long as you do all the work. Having it front engined makes the work easier to do.

The typical "Aw man get a real Porsche" comment comes up again! It's got to be the dumbest mindset of the public and car enthusiasts. You guys are as bad as the Porsche purists claiming any Porsche made after 1998 aren't "real" Porsches. If you're one of the ones making the "get a real Porsche" comment and don't know what I'm talking about, then you should consider researching about what you're posting first.

You'll actually find a lot of Porsche enthusiasts own both a 911 and some variant of a 944.

Compression ratio: 7.5:1 ....................Damn thats some low compressionNot on a '83 model, 1981+ was the 924 Turbo Series II with higher compression (8:1) and smaller turbo. The result was less overheating issues and the horsepower went from 170 to 177, the 1981 911SC had 180 ;)

As for the 924/944, i'd seriously put a LS2 in one and call it a day. The stock 4 cylinder Audi engine will probably be nothing but problems and parts and labor will be a complete nightmare. I had an old roommate that worked for a Porsche salvage yard and they were a new parts supplier as well, he had a 951 and even him working everyday with literally HUNDREDS of salvaged Porsches it was still a pain in the ass for him to obtain the parts plus the cost was crazy expensive. :2cents:

I've seen the 944 w/ LS1 swaps run at Homestead and the old roommate has ridden in a few with the conversion done by a company in Miami...says it's STUPID fast. The LS# is actually lighter than a 951 engine

That's blasphemy as far as I'm concerned. I have always been anti-engine swap-between-makes. Especially the Porsches. I would never consider putting any other engine in a Porsche except a Porsche(or factory). And I also love the Carerra GTs. Later, QD.

I say go with the 931. I love the 928/944/968 cars, very interesting slice of Porsche's (and VW/Audi) history. I personally like the 951 (944 Turbo S) the best out of these cars but if it is that specific model that has your eye and you are in the position to comfortably own it, I say more power to you.
