i love them, but everyone says they are slow, but compared to the FD they arent that slow especially for a NA rotary. They had issues with the motor like all rotaries do, but i also heard that its all under recall so it can be fixed at the dealer..

I test drove one about a week ago and I was not impressed by it. It felt slow and sluggish off the line. But it is cool watching that needle go way farther than I've ever seen or want to see.

Overall I think it looks great but the performance don't match the look.

I mean, they aren't fastest on the road, but they are still quick cars, and they handle amazingly well.

I love RX-8s. I keep bugging my sales guy at Jim Ellis Mazda to let me drive another. There's something about seeing that tachometer needle's huge range, it just drives me wild. But then almost any RX will give me a boner, so eh. I prefer good handling cars with high-revving powerplants over torque monsters. And hey, any car that comes from the factory with a 9000+ RPM redline and a carbon fiber driveshaft is worth another look, right?

I personally think that they're ugly...and they're not exactly torquey, but you cannot beat that handling. I don't know too much about living with a rotary, but aren't they super high maintenance?

If high revs gets your blood racing though...this is a great car.

not really, the RX-7s used little more oil than a normal piston engine...but in a rotary thiers way less moving parts than a piston engine,so u have less things to break

Oh, more oil...so oil changes were expensive? I've also read that you have to change the oil more frequently. Maybe that was wrong...or maybe whoever wrote that in just had a bad apple RX-8.

And I've always heard something like "warm the engine up to normal operating temperature before driving."

u change oil every 3k miles...same as any other car

yea,i always warmed up my RX-7 to full temp before taking it out

there not as bad as people say, people just hate something diffent....

I guess it was the bad one of the bunch then...some guy wrote into C&D claiming that he had to change his oil every 900 miles.

Rotaries are THIRSTY though...no denying that.

RX8's are under-rated, there is a reason that 8's routinely take the top ten finishes in its SCCA class. Take it to the road course, not the drag strip.

ps. I only sold mine to fund the R32...

08-29-2007, 06:17 PM
yea man... sales \man told me to drive it like he wasnt there...so i just floored it and took some hard corners..then he took me behind a building and did some donuts...he told me to turn the steering and then accelerate... and the braking is really good... and there is no body roll

wow lots of rotary know how in here lol just playin but the RX is more of a road course car all of them ever made are really becuase you really need tq over hp at the drag strip just one thing bout mine when i first got it is that most poeple dont know how to dire them i did not when i got my rx7 rpms are your friend but city driving is still a bitch with no bottom end power an as far as oil IT IS MEANT TO BURN OIL to oil the apex seals and they will blow if you run it dry but if the more you rev the more oil it burns

TheDarkRacer

yea rx8's are nice. I think they are the sexist cars mazda made(besides my fc :P ) but all rx cars arnt made for the drag strip. They are designed to devour the corners. but um.. rotarys dont have tq. its just part of the design... if you want one go ahead you wont be dissapointed... unless u wanted drag speed

The RX8 is okay. They get a bad rap, I think. I'd rather have an older rotary car.
