Heh... in rebuttle to the always expected sarcasm, I'm curious. Tim made a post about how heated the police have been this month on the dragon. Video's capturing some 10 - 15 cars and bikes patrolling and posting on the route. So I'm suprised to see some of us up there. And from the way the suspension is working on some of the pics, you guys were going at pretty good speeds.

So how WERE the cops? As in were there alot? none? What was their demeanor? Handing out tickets? Or just lax?

Nice pictures. Hope you got at least one in poster size

I rolled in on Saturday night and I didnt see one cop one the dragon around 9pm. We rode through the Dragon at about 930am on Sunday morning and we only saw one cop on the way through but he was off his bike talking to another biker as we drove by, he was running radar.
On the way back towards the camp ground there were cops everywhere *this was just one hour later* and not to mention we got stuck behind the RV that was in that last pic, so it was a no go on the fun on the way back towards the campground.
So I had to turn around and go back because I had already packed all my stuff and when I turned around I pulled out behind two bike cops and one crown victoria. So i was like fuck this is going to be boring, but since there are so many turns on the tail i just laid off and when the cop would go around the corner a few corners up i would jump up to twice the speed limit and as soon as i saw his back end i would slow back down......i kinda liked being behind him bc it was nice to know exactly where he was, after me flying around corners then lay way off for like 7 miles the cop got smart and pulled over and got behind the guy with the roof rack (David)......and yea his car was sexy as hell and I would drive it too.
My car was the first car, with the passenger with the gloves, if you look close enough you can see the mask too in the third pic.
Thanks for all the positive feed back
Jeff

Nice... I was there last year with my 8thCivic.com forum and had a blast. The switchbacks and sharp corners are crazy. And the constant elevation changes are very noticable. Ears popping and everything. Might go again this Sept. 8-10... but don't know yet, NO CAR!!!

Best answer of the day. :goodjob:

Having lived at the end of the dragon for a couple years, there are usually no cops up there at night. Very few cars up there as well. The only thing you have to contend with up there at night is the wildlife and the crazy rednecks that party up there. When SEDA had our event up there, we encountered truck loads full of them, doing burnouts in the middle of the road and weilding chainsaws. They would fire them up in the middle of the night and rev em up then shut em down. Weirdness.

Around 9:30 or 10:00 the cops will descend on the place and stay there till around 5:00 or so, then start thinning out. The best time to go there is in the early part of winter. November or so. That's when we did our high speed runs and when most people run it for times to try and beat the record. 8 min 53 seconds in a car and 8 mins 47 seconds on a bike last time I kept up with it. Same guy holds both. The run is from the bridge on the tennessee side to the state line. 10.6 miles I think it is.

I prefer night runs anyways: it's much more calm, no traffic, and with a relatively loud car you don't have to worry about animals...it's normally only you and the sound of your exhaust echoing off the rock walls :D

It didn't take long at all. That's the beauty of it. When it comes to people of your caliber, it doesn't require much thought to put you in your spot. If it was truly "just the internet," would you have really felt the need to break the topic and make your intellectual comment? I highly doubt it. I'm pretty sure my track record here and in my life and my educational prowess will definitely outweigh your thoughts of me being a "fucking idiot."

All I have to do is pull out one year of my learnings and I've still far outdone you in intellectual stature. What I was doing was setting a little girl down and teaching her that she isn't shit and that she should only have her mouth open for the usual girlie deeds. And thanks for emulating my sign off. Pretty original shit if you ask me.

And magicandmisc, I would apologize, but seeing as how the female I was instructing came up with the brilliant plan to override your thread, it was only fitting for me to intervene and teach her a lesson. All's well now. Later, QD.

Mmmm...i've been wanting a GPS data logger to run it with: http://www.trackmateracing.com/ End result would be a 3D model of the run with speed and braking shown :yumyum: And of course official recorded times ;)

I prefer night runs anyways: it's much more calm, no traffic, and with a relatively loud car you don't have to worry about animals...it's normally only you and the sound of your exhaust echoing off the rock walls :D

The only problem with night runs is that if the Dragon bites you, you are screwed til the next day. In the daytime if you go over the side, there are folks all over you within seconds. At night, nobody.

Here's what happens when the Dragon bites back. I post these every time the Dragon topic comes up because this is a superb example of how badly the Dragon can bite you. This guy wasn't tearing it up, wasn't flying through the corners and was taking it easy. Early morning dew on the painted lines in themiddle of the road got him good. We were all in a line going up the mountain at about 7:45 a.m. He came into the corner, braked and caught the slick line. Locked up brakes took him right over the side of the mountain.

Where he went over.

The tree he hit 4 feet in the air.

The car.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/Sixgunsports/MVC-060F2.jpg

If that would have happened at night, ouch. Alone he would have had to walk back down the mountain. If he didn't get creamed by a car, attacked by a bear or some other nasty creature or assaulted by the locals, he would have had a 14 mile trip to the first inhabited household.

Couple of my old Tail cars.

Long post. I love the Tail, super sweet place to go if you go at the right time, pay attention and follow the golden rule. Don't cross the Streams. :D

I remember when the guys and i went last year, i was in my EH... we came in from the wrong direction and go lost trying to find our hotel...

to make a long story short, we accidentaly wound up on the tail for the first time at 3 in the morning after a five hour clip (after a full work day) from down here in columbus...

...i had prepped my car in the days before the trip; (4 new Azenies, new EBC pads, nice D2 dampers, GSR brakes, brembo slotted rotors etc...) but i took it easy all the same... wound up facing a cliff wall and missing it by maybe 12 inches... (road suddenly jinked left)

:) ...best weekend of my life, got some great photos and footage, I'm really looking forward to taking my car up there again this fall.

I did the same thing, about 10pm coming down Hwy. 60 from Suches around 9 years ago, ugh it was that long ago  anyways, throttle stuck for some reason in my first gen integra and while playing around with that the turn kinda snuck up on me...instead of taking it with balls i gently applied the brakes instantly locked up the front left on the paint and off i went head first into the guardrail. Just enough time for me to say to myself, "this is gonna hurt" haha. Luckily the guardrail was there or i'd still be picking pine needles out of my hair

Not only that. You need to know the road. I spent 3 years up there and it will still suprise me. You never, ever fully understand that road because you never will be able to guess what is coming around the next turn. Will it be a fat man on a Harley? a Jackknifed tractor trailer? a handfull of cops standing over the dead body of a motorcyclist who splatted into a wall? a roadblock? a truck carrying a carnival ride in the shape of giant Bee's? who knows. I've seen every single one of those things up there. They are ever-changing. So if you go flying through there and don't know the road, or watch through the tree's 3 curves ahead, you will die. Plain as that.

"Bullshit he wasn't pushing it"

If he was just "cruising" up the dragon a little dew on the paint wouldn't have caused that unless he is a total moron. Sorry.

Or you could go for the simply joy of cruising through at or around the speel limit.

ORRRR

You can be a dumbass and try to drive it really fast because that proves you truly are a badass.

I was in the line of about 18 cars that were going up the mountain, I wasn't speeding and he was behind me. The witnesses all said the same thing. If you weren't there, you have no clue.

I'm guessing you don't go up there much. See, you can cruise the speed limit up there and still get your clock cleaned by someone else. You can cruise the speed limit and still screw it up on some of those turns. Going the speed limit doesn't magically make you immune to stupidity. At least nobody in your photos crossed the streams. That's at least refreshing.

So stop trying to be a badass.
