i have a 1999 323i i need to check the oil transmission how can i check?Don't think you can and shouldn't need to. How many miles on the car? Might just want to drain it and replace it. :2cents:

i hate to break it to ya but check it before you decide to change it just because if the tranny started to go and you change the fluid it will do nothing but expedite the process. so check it and if its not still a clearish redish color i wouldnt suggest changing. but if its auto you should have dipstic i think a yellow handle

typically on the 3 series you should change the tranny at 100K if its an automatic. the oil bmw uses in the auto tranny they claim you shouldnt ever have to change. Although you might want to try that first get on e46fanatics and see what ppl are using. i dont have a auto so idk. but my 2000 328 has 143K on it and it runs like a dream and i put redline atf D4 in the tranny (shifts smoother)

At 100K? You are 60-70K overdue... And I would never change it at 100K... definitely not on an e46 auto... Quality went WAY down on the 3 series Auto compared to the e30 and e36.

And your car is going into the "limp home" mode if it is going slow and won't go over a certain MPH. Something is majorly wrong and it is probably NOT low trans fluid.
