Thank you! At some point in this thread something must have turned because this is exactly what I am saying. I am Puerto Rican and I have friends that are from other Latin American countries. There are some words that do not translate appropriately between our different cultures but I can not expect them to change their form of speech or their dialect because the words that they are using are offensive to me. It is who they are and what makes them an individual.

And yes it is JUST A WORD...I personally just feel that those that get offended easily by it need to bring it up to the person using it, but also understand that this person in question should not feel obligated to change their speech because you asked. A polite and caring person would do it out of respect, but not everyone is polite and caring.

There ARE some words, phrases, and disparaging remarks that are off limits. Let's be grown-ups: OF COURSE there are words that some groups can use that others can't.

Some people have entitlement issues --> they are so used to privilege, that they take any infringement of their "freedoms" or "rights" as foul play (though they seem to be a lot slower on the draw when it doesn't involve them or their own group). Other people have no sense of boundaries at all. The do not understand things like "context". To misuse a word or phrase is playing w/ fire any way you slice it. But feel free to play if you are willing to get burned (Imus?).

It is NOT a double-standard, it's life. Welcome to Earth. Alphas can talk about Alphas, but Kappas better STFU and watch themselves. Marines can talk shit about each other, but don't let a grunt get into the fight.
