i have a turbo gsr and my ringlands are toast. did a leakdown today and cylinder 3 is 88% rofl. the others were around 10-15%. so im gonna rebuild it with forged pistons and rods. any suggestions on brand. only shooting for about 350whp on full boost. about 290-300 for daily. going with stock bore and compression btw.

How long did your motor last? what psi where you running now? and how much power was you making?

oh and btw cp or srp pistons and eagle rods FTW!!

Eagle ROds and use CP pistons

i can get good prices on them too if you need them.

MAKE SURE YOU TUNE IT AS WELL

As far as pistons you could use arias, wiseco, or CP. Rods just go with Eagle.

it only lasted 2500 miles, simply because i was on a basemap and took forever to get tuned. so its my fault for not tuning. im not sure what hp i was making, when i got tuned it was only a street tune, but i maxed out the stock map sensor.

put new rings in it and call it a day

patrick4588
08-21-2007, 04:14 PM
well if im pulling the pistons out, i might as well put forged ones in right? but then again, i dont feel like going without my car for a month... how much would oem rings be?

Vteckidd
08-21-2007, 04:17 PM
need to pull it apart. if the pistons have collapsed ringlands, new rings will not solve the problem

patrick4588
08-21-2007, 04:19 PM
well i wont know till i get it apart so i should probably get on that.

id go with CP. I have Wiseco in my car and ran 3 months with a lean piston and it held up forever!

how are the wiseco doing? i found a good deal on them combined with eagle rods and arp rod bolts

patrick4588
08-21-2007, 04:39 PM
street tune as in a wideband and crome pro. jkobd tuned it for me. it was done on the street, not a dyno. the tune was good, i just screwed it up by riding on a basemap for a month and a half...

they are fantastic.

I had an injector clog (paper in the way...dont ask) for 3 months on 13psi every day and it took A LOT to melt the piston. And it barely melted. They are very strong. I still have a few at the house (back ups, i kno they wont fit ur car) if u want to see or whatever. I love them to death and there customer service is AWESOME!

i painted my rails red and put paper in the injector ports...and forgot to take one piece out...

patrick4588

it could have been a lot worse, i could have slung a rod thru the block or floated a valve or anything like that. just rings gone isnt so bad.

i have been ridign around for 6 months or more on a base map...ran low 12's...over boosted many times...(17psi) revved to 9500rpms...all on a stock gsr. no probs yet. if you did some major damage its most likely due to your motor not being up to the task of boost moreso thatn the base map being that far off. jason has been good to me and kyle with the base maps. true they are only to get you going till you can tune...but a basemap for a stock gsr with a 60 trim and 550's...there are millions of them. and imsure they are all very similar....may not be dead on but close enought o run a car good...hell i ran 12.2@116 on a base map and stock motor, kyle ran 12.8 on a base map and stock motor. its shitty the at this happened but its not just the base map...the motor has to be ready for the abuse too. i think the prob was most likely that while you were untuned your car was not making near the power it was after the tune..and thast why it fucked up after the tune. it was making more power with a good clean tune and teh shit in your motor couldnt handle it. didnt you say the previous owner rebuilt the motor or somehting...what did he use for internals?

patrick4588
08-22-2007, 09:20 AM
honda rebuilt the motor like 63k miles ago. i did a compression test before i put the turbo kit on and it was like 220 across the board. i dont remember the exact numbers, but they were all like 218,221,etc...

so i pulled the head today and everything seems to be in ok shape. cylinder 3 piston looks like part of it melted (not bad) and caused a open spot near the cylinder wall. the rings are toast but the walls looks to be ok. im hoping to get away with getting a good hone and throwing some new pistons and rings in. i got some pics and ill get them up in the morning/afternoon

ive ran more than that. the map is from a gsr with the same turbo/fuel system and 10 psi. it runs ok...ok enough to run low 12's. wheni tune it im gonna crank theboost up more. fuck it. i have had this motor for 3.5 years now and boosted it twice. if it blows up its no big deal.

glad you got your shit taken aprt ..now get it back together and save for that sleeved block and some good internals. build it right and be happy

Nice...how many lbs you cranking it up to? what size slicks were you using when you ran that 12.2?

I started laughing in this thread somewhere around post # 22

nice

patrick4588

the crazy thing was on that 12.2 pass he only cut like a 2.1 or 2.0 60'. 11s were definitely possible that night if the 60' would have been a little lower.
