Eh, i got bored with my other set of wheels and wanted to do something with a twist. Its more of a anodized green and kinda hard to get the full effect in a picture.

yup... the metalcast green. I tried the 'smoke' on one of them and was less then impressed with the color. The finish of the metalcast colors GREATLY depends on the base color. If you put it over a metallic silver or chrome, it'll be bright as hell... put it over something dark, and you'll get a much darker green. I would love to put it over my chrome intercooler piping.....which i will be doign sometime soon. I'd also like to see the red or purple on some wheels/parts.

so what was the layer/paint procedure minus the prep work

Doppelgänger
08-17-2007, 10:54 AM
well, my prep work consisted of......nothing. No sanding, no primer, just masking off the lips. I started with a 'dust coat'.... not even enough paint to really change the color. Let that dry, do it again. When it dries, it should have a chalky texture. Then it was about 4 coats until it had a nice gloss. Putting each coat on while the other was still tacky.

Wait until the next set is done. :ninja:

so u just used the paint color u wanted? i thought u laid down another color first then applied the desired color...

you can.... if you want to brighten it up. The wheels started off bright silver metallic... so there was no need to. But if you're working with something thats already dark, then you'll need to spray it with something bright first then go back over it with the metalcast.

i used the metalcast purp on my VC but i did not lay a silver or chrome base down. i guess that explains why its not poppin' like i want it to.

Yeah, whatever you use as a basecoat will come through. If you want a metallic/pearly finish... then use a metallic base. If you want more of a candy, then a flat base will work better (chrome paint, very bright silver/light grey or even white).

I used the purple one for my calipers that everyone on here seems to love so much. :D

The metalcast paint is meant to be used after the metallic base coat has been applied first. If this is done it comes out very nice/shiny with flake in it.
