Smoothing a b series Valve cover

I got a b series vtec valve cover i want to shave all the letters off, whats the easiest way to do this? Ive tried a milling machine and that shit didnt come out with good results lol.

If you can use a mill, I'd do that to get it close atleast. Then use a flexible sanding pad with a fairly smooth grit to take it the rest of the way down. Once your real close to having it gone, i'd just up the grit number until it comes out in a rather smooth finish.

Electric Palm Sander. I've done it before, took me 15 mins, and I did not hurt my hand. Home Depot has a lot of cheap ones.

agreed. Use a dremel to get it close, and use the palm sander to get it the rest of the way. If you want to go with the oem style wrinkle paint, advanced auto sells black wrinkle paint that looks almost exactly like the oem finish.

You could use dremel to get down, but I used big grits sand papers at first and smaller grits near the end to get it flat and smooth. I believe palm sander will be much much faster over everything else since it sands big area at a time.

yea it sands a larger area, but with sand paper. you could use the largest grit possible and still not be able to sand as fast as a grinding rock or drum roll that is turning 30k rpm. the palm sander is good to use last since it is a flat level surface for finishing.

i got a rotary buffer w/ 60g sandpaper attachments. works pretty good :goodjob:

never thoguht of a palm sander *doh* lol. Probably would work a lot safer than using the flexible grinder thingy.lol. I wanted to do mine eventually, but its way low on the things to do list.

I'd use an angle grinder until you get close then an orbital sander to smooth it down flush. :2cents:

i guess ill try a palm sander. Im having the cover powder coated glossy black so no issues with trying to find paint and stuff.

i used a black and decker mouse, in fact i use black and decker mouse for most of my polishing jobs.

its like 35 bucks at wally world. just make sure u start with a LOOOOW ass grit or it will take 5-6 hours.

results on mine after 4 hrs.

yeah im not polishing, im sure i can get a hold of one of those sanders from my father in law, dont feel like buying one.

that one i didnt polish i just painted it. polished the oh vtec thats it. but i had to take the paint right off
