View Full Version : Need help with a LS Motor

I am going to buy a LS motor that has had water in it, the water has been dried out, but i was told it needs a rebuild or at least a resurface job. Does anybody have an experience with this kind of thing, or can tell me what i will ask the machine shop when i bring it to them.

how bad?

just get it honed and the deck surfaced and you're straight

bring some pistons and theyll match 'em perfect.

The dude i got it from said its not bad it just need a slight rebuild, you think i should get some CTR or ITR pistons? what price range will the machine shop charge me to put in the pistons?

What do you mean it has water in it? Hydrolock? If in that case the rod might be bended already. Hone and bore should be under $100 most shop. Decking is around $75, resurface head is around $60, file fit rings ~$50. I know from my eperience fully assemble bottom end and all clearance check would cost you ~$300 on labor alone. Since you rebuild, micropolish the crank and balance ~125. Change new bearing ~$100. If you decide to stay NA and do LSVTEC check this out: http://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1676914
Or if you plan to boost later, get some forged pistons and rods.

i had that happened to my gsr motor... it was flipped and water and oil got in there... i just got the motor resurfaced and a new head gasket and ran like a champ....go holla at import experts in winder ga....

Don't buy it unless you get it for cheap and you plan to rebuild it. How much he is asking?
